ABC Wednesday: Q is for Québec

One of the highlights of my solo train trip across Canada last year was the beautiful province of Québec, wreathed in romance and mystery to westerners, beckoning us to visit, whether we are bilingual or not.

Above, left, and below,
Montréal, Québec
Old Montréal attracts
tourists from all
parts of the world,
but to Canadians of
a certain age, the
condo development
below is the
Quintessential
Montreal, built as it
was for Expo '67.
I rented a car to drive from the train station in Gaspé, Québec, back to the previous stop, Percé, and back again to Gaspé for my return trip to Montreal, so I could experience for myself the beauty of Quebec's wonderful Gaspé Peninsula
Thousands of Northern Gannets nest on the seaward side of Bonaventure Island (above)
off the shore of  Québec's Gaspe Peninsula. None nest on the landward side (below).

Gannets can, however, be seen fishing close to the town of Percé, Quebec.

The town of Percé is named after the "pierced rock"
(roche percé) offshore.

What a wonderful trip you had. Quebec looks beautiful. The expo buildings are interesting but rather strange, I think (but that's me, I have no artistic taste;-))

There are parts of Quebec that cause one to gasp at its beauty! We saw the Olympic site when in Montreal but I much prefer Quebec City and its environs instead of Montreal. Beautiful photos, Kay! Have a wonderful week,

Lovely trip through a beautiful place. I was there way back in 1976. I'm sure things have changed vastly since then.

I always enjoy photographs from your trips. I've always wanted to take one of the train trips across Canada and on across Alaska. My Godmother did that and it sounded like so much fun. Beautiful shots!

These are lovely photos. I was in Quebec years ago for a friend's wedding. Feels like it's time to pay another visit!

When I was nineteen, I took a train across Canada, to get married in Ottawa......we spent one weekend in Montreal, on Ste. Catherines street. I would love to make that train trip again. Though I'd likely sleep all the way across, the rocking of the train being so soothing!

I learn so much about the world from you! Those condos from the Expo is a work of art-kind of takes your breath away thinking they might not hold up. Apparently, they have.

I've been to Quebec twice. The first trip was about 30 years ago on a flying camping trip. I remember walking from the airfield to a restaurant in a small town. When we got there the menu was only in French and no one would help us translate, until another customer took pity on us. We went back two summers ago on our trip to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. I found the people more welcoming to English speakers, even having English translated menus if requested. I felt a lot more welcome. My only foreign language is Spanish. Not much help in this case. - Margy

A place of rare beauty!! Your photos capture it all!! I am not a fan of tall vertical buildings but the wonderful Gaspé Peninsula and the offshore roche percé are breathtaking!!

I've been just briefly to Québec, but never to Montreal and have wanted to visit there for some time. So thanks for the vicarious trip this morning!

I've recently developed a bit of a photographic preoccupation with vintage-style street lamps, and love the one you photographed! But that condo complex takes the cake. It reminds me of ancient cave dwellings! I wonder what it's like to live there? (Expensive, for one thing, I'm guessing!) :-)

Love the condo buildings, one could almost call it quirky. The Gaspé Peninsula looks the perfect place to journey to after a busy city.

The Gaspe peninsula is one place I would really like to visit. It seems to be very similar to my childhood village of Flamborough. I didn't know they had Gannets there. We have Gannets at Flamborough. Not too many places left in the world where they can still be found.
