Camera Critters, Cinque Terre, and Venice

In Italy, or at least in the part of it on the northwest coast called Cinque Terre, children feed the seagulls and chase the pigeons away.

Photos by Kay Davies

Farther east, in Venice's famous St. Mark's Square, my husband chatted with a pigeon, explaining why we didn't bring food for these critters, who have no fear of humans.

Nice photo from your husband and the pigeon! It reminds me on a photo I took at venice many years ago from my children with pigeons on their shoulders, their arms and their heads. So many pigeons.

I love sea gulls, and I can deal with pigeons although one on my shoulder would make me squirm a bit
love the photo!!

Oh Kay, I'm green with envy! I've been to the Cinque Terre and absolutely LOVED it! Not seen Venice, though, - yet! Have fun and I'm looking forward to seeing more photos!

Brings back the memory when we were at Trafalgar Sq, London. It was pigeons galore. My children had the time of their life feeding them. And they were all over! Nicely Kay!

Great photo, the worrying thing would be though if the pigeon answered back! Here in the UK seagulls are a protected species due to their decline in numbers in some coastal areas. However in towns they have become a real menace with their scavenging habits, but cannot be culled because they are a protected species! X

@ Dianne — I love seagulls, too.
@ Fran — Perhaps they're a protected species in Italy, too, because we certainly didn't see many of them.
@ Leslie — Your photos of Cinque Terre are what made me want to visit there. Thanks!

Oh -- I am definitely NOT a fan of pigeons. (But I like alligators, so it is really a matter of different strokes isn't it...).
