Our World Tuesday: the town rocks

In the little town of Redcliff, Alberta, historic buildings and sites of former important buildings are marked by large rocks painted in honor of or in memory of those places. Here is the rock for Gordon Memorial United Church, as well as photos of many of the church's prairie-themed stained-glass windows. I took these pictures in autumn a few years ago, when the weather was quite mild.

Now that is a unique idea! It would be fun to wander through town looking for rocks and their accompanying buildings.

What an unusual combination of stained glass and brick. It works very well.

Something different than the usual brass plaque. It's a handsome church with lovely windows.

Those glass windows are wonderful! Makes so much sense to show what you should be grateful for instead of (well, instead of what stained glass windows usually show).

Seems like a lovely town.

I guess White Rock is not so unique. There are other towns that have their very own special rock! This is a great way to mark a historic event like the church being built. Also, I like the prairie-themed stained-glass windows. They must cast such pretty reflections from within the church.

Love the painted rock and the photos. I love taking pictures of old churches there is so much character to them...and thanks for pointing out my typo. It is corrected :)

The embedded church photo on the rock, really rocks! What a talent!

We are also going back to SD in three weeks time. I hope you will enjoy your stay, and maybe you can check out the flower fields in Carlsbad, I am not sure if they are blooming yet.

I love the painted rock. I painted some small garden rocks like animals. Lots of fun until I got the polyurethane coating stage. - Margy
