The tower in which Jeanne d'Arc, the Maid of Orleans, was imprisoned
during her trial for heresy in Rouen, France, then controlled by the British.

Dick had already climbed the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, so he added a climb up the stone stairway to the top of St. Joan's Tower to his list.

I didn't get there the one time I was in France as I was on a tour. But it looks fascinating - what a story she had! Have a jolly week!

Oh, entering this archway certainly shows what a claustrophobic and narrow space this is and how difficult it would have been to cope! Looks like Dick has been getting great exercise climbing up all those stairs in Europe. :)
Not a pleasant place to stay, that's for sure!
Yes the rooms are smaller but so were the people, although this doresn't look like a spot I'd like to spend anytime. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Terrific captures of a very special place.
Looks like a great place to visit.
A barbaric tower from barbaric times.
We visited Rouen, but missed the tower. Thanks for showing me just how stupid we were.
@ Friko — You, of all people? Stupid? Never.
The movie, Joan of Arc really touched me when I was a youngster. It is interesting to see the photos of this place where she spent her time.
And we too missed Rouen, - saw it from a distance as we hurried along to catch the Chunnel Train. A very sombre looking tower...
Too bad we can't travel together. Art could go with Dick up towers and hills. I really don't like stairs. This is such a fabulous place. GREAT photos!
Dear Kay,
Thanks for sharing this wonderful post. I'm enchanted by the last composition, bravo!

It looks so romantic but in reality it must have been a grim place in which to be imprisoned. Great photos:-)
Always fascinated by Jeanne d'Arc

Looks like an interesting spot!!! And Lindy looks a lot like our golden, Kelly!!!
A foreboding place.
I'm trying to imagine how she felt walking through the doors of this place. It looks really beautiful now but then it probably was a very somber, dreadful place then.
