Book Blurb Friday: open window

Lisa Ricard Claro, on her blog Writing in the Buff, hosts Book Blurb Friday, one of my favorite memes. Each week, she posts a photo and asks us to imagine it is the cover of a book. Then, she says we are to:

Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book.

Below is this week's "book cover" offered for our creative blurbs by the talented Sandra Davies at Lines of Communication.
(NB— Sandra says she doesn't think it's likely I'm related to her husband, even though we have the same last name. Below is my submission to this week's Book Blurb Friday. — K)

The open window reflected, not the multicolored maple leaves, but a vacant building and, with it, the shape of a skull.
What did it mean? wondered the crime scene investigator.
The window wouldn’t have been left open on a chilly autumn day, not with the radiator set to the maximum. And yet there was no way anyone would have chosen the window as an exit, with its narrow sill and its sharp drop to the paving stones far below.
Renowned BBF author Minnie Cooper has once more outdone herself in this novel of crime, suspense and, yes, horror.

Kay ... yes! You did a great job on this and I know that your book will be awesome. I saw some spooky things in the reflection too, but just played off the sign in the window across the street.

Great job ...

Vary well-observed - I didn't notice the skull until the picture appeared on BBF, nor that the reflected tree had lost its leaves. But I'm a sucker for whodunnits so this would be a 'must buy'

When is the book coming out? Presumably the murderer did choose to exit by the window, in spite of the sharp edge. They do that, you know.

It's a good thing it has an investigator in it, since I never even spotted the skull!

Congrats to Minnie on her best seller. And to Kay on a winning blurb.

I'll buy it! Love the spooky stuff. :) Kathy saw spooky this week too, when I didn't at all. I love the varying "genres" that sprout from these pictures.

Am so glad Minnie is back, and that she's noticing things like that skull-shaped reflection! This one will be a page-turner for sure.
