For Real Toads: Shanyn on Sunday

This weekend's Sunday Challenge for the writers' group Imaginary Garden with Real Toads features some beautiful photos by another prairie-dweller, Shanyn Salinski.
I thought about Shanyn's photos for several hours before choosing not one or two, but three, and that wasn't enough for me, so I added a fourth. It doesn't have its own poem, but I wanted it there as a warning.
I enjoyed this challenge so much, I'd do it again! I got to use some words I've never used in poetry before.

light reflecting
off the fence,
behind which
the forest
is so dense
the light
cannot penetrate
until the sun
is higher
in the sky.

sunflower—
sun,
flower,
sun.
warmth,
beauty,
and food
for birds.

don’t drive down here.
don’t come near:
the road will end
but, before it does,
it will be tough
and rough,
will make your tires
and transmission
work overtime,
and you’ll find
you just have to
come back the same way,
anyway.

Beware: your vehicle might end up looking like this if you ignore the sign!

Wonderful Kay. I like the photos and your words suit them all very well! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Would you believe we had hail yesterday and the forecast is snow and rain three times this week? It will probably be wet snow but still....usually we are gardening by now as you know. Hope your weather is warming. Hugs. xx

Your enthusiasm for your art comes through in your words. I particularly like the poems that you have fun with, like the no through sign and the warning, lol.

This was a fun response, Kay. The last line made me smile.

Very clever way of using many of the pictures. The ending made me laugh outloud!

Delightful, Kaye! I really loved the short but deft glimpse into each of the photos, contrasting yet woven into one.

Kay - this is so cool that you used four photos, and the one as a warning at the end rocked! You created a set here that ties things together so well! You can write to my photos anytime you want! :-)

Thanks for the warning, Kay! That vehicle looks like it needs more than a new set of spark plugs!

"food for birds" ... Hmmm, nice metaphor for life.

"and you’ll find
you just have to
come back the same way,
anyway" ... Ah, the curse. Repetition.

I'm just glad I can't drive! I've been going places inside books, poems and friends' hearts like yours. <3

Kisses dear!

You picked up on the feeling in all of them... especially the last one. (some warning signs are worth heeding) ha
