Magpie Tales 88: city driving

This fabulous city photo is by Lee Friedlander, from America by Car,
posted as a prompt by Magpie Tales

CITY DRIVING

City driving makes me crazy,
City driving drives me mad.
Round and round I go forever:
Can no parking place be had?
*
How I long for open spaces
Of a village or our town,
Easy parking just for banking,
Shopping's easy there, I've found.
*
So why am I in the city
Making turns to left and right?
I'm here 'cause my husband promised
He would take me out tonight.
*
Dinner first, a movie after,
Then back to our town we'll drive,
Him in front; and me, I'll follow
Like the best of driving wives.
*
Next time we two go for dinner,
Mere blocks from our home we'll be,
And, of course, to watch a movie,
We can do that on TV.

Excellent take...so very true! We are very happy to be living in a town, now...no city driving! Dinner out, no problem...the food is more than good enough for us, then home in minutes for movies and, of course, blogging!

Well done. You are so clever and creative. I've been preoccupied with a hospice client.

Oh, yes--- this is why we moved from the city to a farm! I liked the busy-ness of this poem, so well symbolizing the drive itself. Great ending lines as well. Might as well stay home...

i myself dont like the city living but i guess i have no choice. hehehe... esp that all that i need to do and people i need to see and meet are there. even for shopping, yeah to browse is easy, but to go on a long line when paying, a pain in the whatever...

btw, thank you for the push and the moral support for my upcoming projects. In my own little way i wanted to be a help to people. that is what i am and i wanna be. McGuinty is on my Facebook list of friends and hope he will listen to me and answer my letter to him. Prayig for all of these... Thanks!

It's funny, but I lived in a city for 10 years, Nottingham. I happily drove on the motorway and in the city centre regularly - then I returned home to Yorkshire and despise city driving now. Jon does most of the driving I drive as little as possible.

Yes, a cozy dinner and a movie at home is lovely. If I'm going to NYC, I want to stay for few days in order to make the drive worthwhile!

True enough Kay! City driving drives me round the bend too. I try to avoid it as long as I can. But once a while for a great evening with a loved one, why not! Beautiful verse!
