The Viking Surkov sailed out of St. Petersburg at 7pm on August 13. The sky was getting quite dark by the time we reached the Oreshek Fortress at Shlisselburg, where the Neva River flows out of Lake Ladoga, so we were unable to get a clear photo. It was built in the early 14th century. |

The next morning, still making our way toward Mandrogy, we found the sky lighter, but no bluer. |
|
We passed many different kinds of buildings. |

These freighters are waiting for their turn to go through a lock. |
|
By the time the Viking Surkov reached Mandrogy,
the sky had lost all color and was just white cloud. |

Very interesting - and the Vikings were there 1000-1200 years ago
Wow, what a trip you must have had! We love cruises too, but have never been on a river cruise yet. Great shots!
Love the water and boats. The one's you've captured are beautiful! :O)

wow, how cool!
What a fascinating place! You're so lucky to be able to visit so many wonderful places.
Wonderful shots. The fortress is interesting.
What an amazing adventure you've had!
Sometimes the sky just hides in the background, to help us remember what we have down here. Some nice pictures along the banks of the Oreshek fortress, and structures much humbler in comparison.
Mandrogy, I like the name. Their waterways is so wide. I want to tag-a-long with your adventurous travels!
P.S. The wind did not allow us to ride on that balloon, but I did one in 2009 on a hot air tethered ride. The last photo was not an aerial shot it was taken on ground, but there were so many cars parked so I had to crop it.
Looks like an amazing time! I've never been on a cruise but maybe that will change!
Wow! Great trip.
Must remember this.
Fortunately your pictures are more interesting then the different skies. I am more and more convinced that I have to do this cruise too or a similar one. For the moment our skies are boring too, grey !!
wow so much beauty there!Wonderful set of pictures dear Kay, I'm enchanted for the boats!

What interesting sights you had on your tour. I really like that last shot of the windmill?
Looks like a very interesting trip Kay with lots of photo opportunities. i think i would need a couple of photo cards at least if I went along that river. A shame about the lack of sun but you made the best of it.
Beautiful photos!
What an interesting voyage you took, Kay! And you even were able to go through a lock. It looks like you saw fascinating buildings and scenery along the way.
You're travels are wonderful, I enjoyed scrolling through this trip with you. I've never had the opportunity to travel abroad. It's a pleasure to see real life things through a visitor eyes. Thank you for sharing and stopping by a traveler's thoughts, too.
Nice shots.
