SkyWatch in St. Petersburg, Russia

The skies in northern Russia don't stay the same for very long. Clouds come and go, and so does the sunshine. These photos were all taken early in our visit to in St. Petersburg, where we moved aboard the Viking Surkov to enjoy its comfortable facilities, including its wonderful dining room, for the first part of our 13-night Waterways of the Czars trip, with Viking River Cruises.

It's not surprising that the best part of Russian skies are these great domes.

Beautiful pictures -- loving the travelogue. Changing skies make for the most interesting pictures. But it's actually hard to concentrate on sky when I am seeing the River and the wonderful buildings.

Interesting how the skies are so much more transient than the magnificent landmarks of St Petersburg!

Thank you for the wonderful pictures of St.Petersburg. From the beautiful canals, St Isaak's cathedral and statue of Peter the Great to the skies above it, it was lovely to see again. You probably were told that St.Petersburg was known as the Venice of the north, just as Riga was known as the Paris of the north.

What a marvellous adventure to go on!

I'm not sure which I adore most, the skies or the architecture. I do know I love the second photo with the white tiles on the domes.
