Book Blurb Friday: helicopter photo

TERRITORIAL
DISPUTE

At first they thought the satellites were wrong, but it didn’t take the scientists long to realize—a new island had emerged in the south Pacific.

They conferred quietly. No one else had mentioned it. It wasn’t in the flight path of any airline, didn’t lie on any shipping routes.

Impossible? One would think so, but there it was.

The scientists met with the government minister in charge of satellite information.

“It is nowhere near Russia,” he said. “Closer to Australia.” The southern hemisphere didn’t concern him particularly. He was not a scientist. “Their satellites will notice it soon.”

It wasn’t soon enough, however. Hours later, when a pilot flying shark-watching tourists out from Noosaville heard his passengers exclaiming loudly in Japanese, he looked down, then called his boss.

Did the island, therefore, belong to Russia, Japan, or Australia?

Read the new novel by Rocky Cairns to find out.

150 words, not including title

wherein Lisa Ricard Claro of Writing in the Buff, supplies a photo (this week by yours truly, the unfittie) and invites us to imagine a book by an equally imaginary author, then write a "blurb" for the back of the book to convince readers to buy it. We must do this in 150 words or less, using the supplied photo as a prompt.
Note:
Another writer-blogger asked if the pilot shown in my photo is my husband. No, my husband is not a pilot. This was taken on our trip to Kauai, Hawaii, last year.

Instead of fantasy island you have mystery island!

I'd buy it! <3

I'm glad to see your beautiful dog, and to discover you participate in camera critters. I used to be there too but grew out of time for the stories I used to create. I have 4 dogs which I totally love!

Take care and keep smiling. <3

I hope it belongs to no-one but the earth itself.
Great story line though!

You have me hooked!

A disclosure of how puny humans think. The island belongs to the One who made it. We can discover new lands, and put imaginary boundaries all we like. A brave attempt, and a meaningful question in the end.

Great story! Love Rocky Cairns!

Is it coincidence that my comment moderation word is 'skyoilt'?

I think not.

I'm sure there will be a major dispute between nations, perhaps even threats. But the creatures scurrying about the island will not trouble themselves over such trivial matters. They will be more concerns about their mutation due to exposure to the nuclear fallout when this area was used for testing.

PS, I do love your authors' names.

Hi Kay,

Wow, well done! It sounds so real; wouldn't that be weird?

I'm sorry to not have a story this week, but I really do enjoy your photo.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Kay. BTW ... where was that picture taken anyway?

I can picture the international conflict caused by that discovery. I'm guessing there is a long and interesting story evolving before your question is answered.

I loved your photo. Something about it certainly suggests an uncharted island, doesn't it?

Kay, this sounded very real to me, and that heightened reality would make it a great story. Plus, you could go in many different directions...nicely done!

A political fantasy with a real feel of reality! I'd certainly read this book.

What a great conflict, not to mention the way you set it up. I was on board even before I read that last sentence...which was the clincher for me!

P.S. Thank you for your kind comments about our dog! They were much appreciated.

This is such a creative idea -- so different, which is why it would be gobbled up. I'd love to read this, not just to find out where the island came from so suddenly, but how the powers that be figure things out. This could turn into a real political satire. Great idea!
