Thursday Theme Song: I'd like to get you...

There is no verse to this song,
'Cause I don't wanna wait a moment too long
To say that...

I'd love to get you on a Slow Boat to China
All to myself alone.
Get you and keep you in my arms evermore,

Leave all your lovers
Weeping on a far away shore.

Out on the briney
With the moon big and shiney
Melting your heart of stone

I'd love to get you on a Slow Boat to China
All to myself alone.

This is one of the, if not the first song I ever remember hearing. It was definitely the Kay Kayser version, and I know when it was recorded, so I was two years old, perhaps three by the time I realized I was listening to music.
Born (in a hospital) on the bank of British Columbia's mighty Fraser River, within spitting distance of the Pacific Ocean, I have always had an interest in things nautical and things related to fishing. The next two songs I remember hearing were Red Sails in the Sunset, and The Shrimp Boats are Coming.

Posted for Hootin' Anni's musical meme
in which I may not be able to participate next week, depending on my social schedule while I'm back home on the west coast visiting my family.
Keep up the good work, however, troops. This is my favorite meme. Thanks a lot, Anni.

Oh Kay, I grew up with all the songs you mention in your post. Red sails in the Sunset reminds me of my father-in-law, who of course, only entered my life in my young adulthood! Great that you have such wonderful memories of your childhood. Have a wonderful day. Hugs Jo

Those folks look like they are working really hard so maybe that boat could be a bit more luxurious since it's going to be so slow.

Great shots Kay. I love all things nautical too.

I don't know when it was written, but I remember it, and the other 2 songs you mentioned! My Dad used to sing the Shrimp Boat song to me! Nice pairing of the song and words! Have a good time with the family...we'll be here when you get back! Love this meme too!

There was a country song, years ago, about a slow boat to China. "We don't need a slow boat to China/ We already missed the bus." I'm into serious music like that, yanno!

I love your picture and how well do they accompany the song.
However, it looks like a hard life...

Well I have never heard this song, but I do remember a song titled "Slow Boat To China" by the Girls Next Door from 1986.
I must say, if your photos are what a slow boat is all about, I'll take the express. Looks like way too much work for me!
Great Post!

I vaguely remember the phrase "slow boat to China" from my youth, but I have no context for it at all.

Hope all is well with you, Kay. I get worried when I don't see you posting.

The first song I remember was Beautiful Brown Eyes. Inspired by the church choir's singing, I decided to join in and belted out the lyrics "down to the barroom he staggered". My father thought it was funny, but my mother was embarrassed. Evidently my secular leanings began at an early age. :D

Those are wonderful photos.
