Magpie Tales 69: all in an instant

Photo provided by Tess Kincaid

All in an instant

Laurel’s favorite piece of jewelry was one she inherited from her grandmother.
Carved of multicolored Chinese jade, with a pearl inset at its base, the tiny whelk shell hung perfectly from a softly woven gold chain. She loved to touch it when she wore it, always glad the artist had rounded the whelk’s points during the carving, so it caressed rather than scratched her skin. She caressed it in return, then let it fall softly to dangle from its gold bracelet.
Horrified, Laurel screamed as it was suddenly snatched from her. The bracelet broke and the man ran out the side door of the restaurant, all in an instant. Her dinner date with a friend’s cousin had suddenly cost her more than she’d been willing to pay.

Always, the most cherished piece, irreplacable... lost in an instant. Love how you captured the moment.

What a great take on the prompt Kay, you are so good at this. A sad tale, too bad she lost a sentimental treasure.

 …ah, unfortunate event… truly no one can ever tell when bad lucks will come… and therefore she should have taken more extra care for her belongings… I enjoyed the read. Thank you.(:

This is such a moving poem having lost my grandmother I don't have a memento aside from my memories, I can't imagine having something so precious and having it taken away
