Camera Critters with their patch of blue

Hey, where is everybody? I wanna get this party started!

Magpies. They make me laugh. They are beautiful birds whose behavior doesn't live up to the promise of their bright white, glossy black and gleaming, flashing blue feathers. They are considered a real nuisance here on the Canadian prairie, and their reputation as thieves is far from unfounded. They will take anything that isn't nailed down, if they like the look of it. They prefer food first, but they also love anything that glitters even if it isn't gold.

Kay,
They chatter a lot besides. Often times though the chattering is more akin to melodious singing. In that mode they are adorable!

Those maggies have a bad reputation over here too Kay - not a popular bird with bird watchers beacuse of their habit of taking the eggs or young of other birds.

They are interesting birds, a little different than the magpies I saw in Yellowstone! Great photo, have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Kay, the magpies remind me of our cheeky starlings, but at least ours don't steal anything! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend. A pat for dear Lindy and best to you and your hubby. Blessings, Jo

Hi-this is my take on a gang of magpies.

Board Meeting
Around the dish under the birdbath
a gaggle of big, bossy, gleaming magpies,
clacking their bills, squawking, gurgling,
jumping around, sharing tales of road kill
and careless rodents, tossing back
their powerful heads to swallow
the delicious fresh water.

Magpies really are fun to watch! And yours seem to look just like ours. I was surprised to see that australian magpies were only black and white; none if that beautiful iridescent blue.

Magpies are increasing in Scotland and they can be real nuisances. But they have lots of character and are very handsome. I like your photo!

We don't have magpies around here so this is a real treat for me. They look gorgeous. Sounds like they're a bit like blue jays: beauty is skin deep.

I love magpies.... they make me laugh too. And they became very special friends to me during a time of great stress and pressure years ago at work.

BTW, I'm with you totally about movies or books where the animal is wounded or dies. Those haunt.

I love your puppy Lindy. He looks a pure delight to be with!

Kitty cats are my special joy, but dogs do have the gift of knowing how to live joyfully in the moment. I take lessons often from them when I meet them on walks or as I'm driving past a dog and his family out for a walk.

I see you are from Alberta/BC. I'm from Alberta, but I love visiting BC too, especially the coast, and Victoria.

Wishing you the best day...

BTW, I found your link at our mutual friend Mr. Puddy... isn't he just the best!
