Izy's Out of Standard challenge: deep, dark

Over at the writers' group, Imaginary Garden with Real Toads, Isabel Gruye has challenged us to write a poem about our deepest, darkest, guiltiest pleasure.
Ah, the things to which I could have admitted when I was young! The poems I could have written to describe my deep desires!
However, I have few guilty pleasures left; but Izy is a hard taskmistress, so I looked at my decadent self this morning, lounging about on a river cruise ship, doing not-very-much, and I find I must admit the truth.

Here are Izy's rules for this month’s Out of Standard challenge, followed by my response.

1.     Admit to your deeply dark guilty pleasure.

2.     Write a poem gluttonously inspired by it. NOTICE: I said gluttonously inspired, which means no light hinting or a slight name drop. Go now, toads, rub your bellies in the muck and bleat delightfully at its deliciousness.

I’m drinking tea with honey and lemon

soothing to a sore throat, so good for me,

while eyeing a pastry filled with chocolate

(my fourth of the morning)

which will be my reward

for drinking the tea.

All good deeds should be rewarded,

don’t you agree?

It's so hard to turn down a good chocolate!

An admirable outlook, I must say. :) Hope the sore throat is fiction, not fact? But if it's true - may it get better soon.

Aaaah Kay, that would be my exact guilty pleasure. Not specifically chocolate - I just love ANYTHING sweet, sticky and pastry-like. Mmm. And here I am munching an apple for lunch, *sigh*. Hope your sore throat is better soon. Enjoy your cruise. We're OFF tomorrow midday, Whoo-hoo! (((hugs))) Jo

...tea isn't that bad... I'm trying to remember that spoonful of stuff my grandmother used to take every day... Cod liver oil? I tasted it once and it was horrific! But a slice (or four) of cake in the morning is a guilty pleasure! :)

Oh I LOVE your philosophy!!!!!! If I eat a carrot, can I then consume pie in good conscience? Hilarious, Kay!

I appreciate you taking a moment to conjure your deep dark guilty pleasure.....sometimes all we can fess up to is a murderous love of chocolate, hiding under our guise of healthy tea....thanks for posting Kay

I do agree! That is why I always buy myself a Hershey bar with almonds when I check out with my groceries and eat it in the car on the way home!

BTW, I've had a heck of a time getting your blog page to load. Same with a few other blogs, including Toads. I get the Home Page picture but little else and the links don't work. Anyone else having issues?

Well of course I agree.

Hey...do you want the rest of that?

I have a weakness for sweets...I can't purchase them or they disappear. :)

Yes, I think they should. Chocolate is a delicious reward....love your dark, guilty pleasure. :)

I would too.

Being on a hideous diet for the last year, reading this was torture. Chocolate would not make me guilty though--probably just blissfully unconscous. ;_) Especially in baked form..now I'm getting to the drooling point.

Now I need a cup of lemon tea before I go to bed...

That lemon tea was the wrong thing to drink before bed- it kept my brain sharp! You can see the result if you pop back HERE today! :)
