Open Link Monday: rivers for Real Toads

Photos from www.vikingrivercruises.com
The Rhine and the Danube flow toward the sea
like many other rivers---
like any other rivers---
unaware of their histories
unaware of their pasts
feeling only the pull
that takes them onward.

But people see the Danube, and people see the Rhine,
unlike any other rivers---

people think of history,
are resentful of the past,
forgetting the pull
that takes rivers onward.

There is no real right of it,
nor is there any wrong,
in the way rivers feel
or the way people think,
unless people fail to understand
that, like rivers, they must continue onward.

Really nice, Kay! I like the parallel flow of river and thought.

So true...rivers and people continue on their journeys. There's no stopping them!

O my! Undressing the rivers to show their skeletons and putting on flesh to show the people. Beautiful form and insight.

I love this, having a particular affinity with rivers ever since I lived beside the Thames as a small child.
That inexorability is shown perfectly in your poem.

I like the personification of the rivers ~ Indeed we must move on with the tides ~

Happy Monday ~

The line in this poem that really spoke to me is "there is no real right of it" I loved how the poem flowed too, like the rivers ... and life! Well done.

such wisdom in this Kay! I hope that you will consider sharing an offering for this year's 4th annual gratitude word quilt. You can find information about the project and how to participate at the top of my blog. If you’ve already sent something thank you and please forgive my poor memory. The quilt is growing quite expansive and with only first names, I can’t always remember who already shared. Feel free to write in your native language google translate is available on my blog so every one can read and understand one another. Every Blessing~ Laura

Timeless flow too. Yes, we need to keep moving forward or, like water, we stagnate too.
Beautiful imagery.

Your trip has been a wonderful inspiration for this poem. The Rhine seems so iconic - it's a long time since I journeyed there.

This, I believe, is my favorite poem of yours (that I have read thus far). It is a beautifully contemplative poem. Onward... what a great idea.

So we flow as the river

sometimes life should be like the rivers and keep moving forward not worrying from where they come or go.

Love the ending to this--like the river, we must continue on--in spite of history....

I love this, Kay! I can't believe you're able to do this when you're on a trip. You must be so tired and yet you're still creative and energized.
