For Real Toads: Lindy's no longer perfect

The following is all true, although much of it is plagiarized. A person  awakened at 3am doesn't write great poetry at 6.

Pre-Christmas Poem

’Twas a braw, bricht, moonlicht nicht,
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave a lustre of midday to objects below
When the dog barked in the nighttime!

It was three o’clock in the morning
I couldn’t sleep the whole night through
There was no point asking “Who'll let the dog out?”
Because I was alone in the house
When what to my wondering eyes did appear
But a wondrous huge buck and one smaller deer.

I had let the dog out, however,
She barked and the deer ran away!
Lindy fans, now and forever,
Will no longer regard her as sweet,
She barked at the deer in the nighttime,
When they’d only come here to eat
Ornamental apples from our front-yard tree.
In spring the birds will get them
If the deer now leave them be
And it will all be Lindy’s fault
For waking me up at three.

Oh that face! Who could stay mad at Lindy for longer than a minute?

She was only doing what comes naturally:-)

Hope your appointment goes well today, Kay.

@ Jabblog — Thanks, Janice. I hope so, too. I've called a cab to pick me up in 40 minutes, so maybe I'd better think about what to wear. My husband will fetch me from the hospital later.
As for Lindy, of course she was only being a dog, but it's the first time she's barked at deer. She doesn't do that when she's out for a walk with Dick, or when she watches them from her window seat. I was surprised, at the time, but now I'm sure the sound of the deer at the tree outside the bedroom window woke her up, and that's why she wanted out.

Lindy not perfect? Impossible. I love your comment about being awakened at three and not able to write perfectly at six! Hee hee.

Sounds like you have medical stuff going on. Hope it all goes well, my friend. Keep us posted!

Lindy is one very vigilant watch dog. No wonder she wanted to go out and shoo the deer away! Hope all's well with you, Kay. Blessings, Jo

Visiting from Real Toads: This poem resonates with me. There are about 8 deer that regularly appear outside my home here. I don't go out with the dogs IF I manage to spot them ahead of time, as they DO bark their heads off at them. The deers either run off or just stand and stare (and that infuriates the dogs).rebute

it's so awful when your dog runs away, and also when they bark early and bother every one
