Photo "African Shoes" by Peggy Goetz |
the shoes were old now:
the colours faded,
the sides bending,
the back coming loose on one.
but she loved the shoes
her husband bought her
when they were young:
they’re such bright colours, he said,
bright, happy like you
when you smile at me
with your warm eyes
and I smile right back at you,
my heart full of pride
and happiness
and love just for
our being here together.
the shoes were old now:
the colours faded
but she wore them
so she would never forget.

Sometimes old worn out shoes are the best! Comfy and cozy the way some long time relationships get. I like your interpretation and how the memory of the gift giver remained bright long after the shoes lost their luster.
That packs a romantic punch Kay, and I am a sucker for that. Wonderful and full of life....great work!

...oohhh. So poignant! YAM xx
Excellent Kay. Love where you went from this photo--and it does fit the feet very well. I love the thought that they were once bright and new.
Yes, Yes, yes! Beautiful--color and all the fade as well. What we walk in is SO IMPORTANT. I would keep them forever. Which is why I am so astonished that I cannot remember the fate of the first shoes made just for me!
So nostalgic and poignant. Some things we hang onto just for the memories.
love this flash-back...so well written :)
I love what you saw in these, Kay!
Very sweet poem. K.
