love song to the senses
do I love mountains
more than rivers?
Richard Schear photo, Costa Rica, 2007 |
the crash
as the waterfall
splashes
into the gorge?
the strength
of the ocean?
the murmur
of streams?
the bay in
the moonlight?
jungle ponds?
the moon?
the stars?
which do I love more?
I know not.
how can I choose
just one to murmur
my love songs to?
give me
all nature
to soothe
my senses
and I will love
each part of it alike.
At the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads today, poet Ed Pilolla has given us a list of words from which we can choose one or more for use in a poem. Not one to enjoy the constraints of rhyme pattern, word count, poetic or syllabic style, Ed has left those matters to us, and provided a list of his favourite words, most of which are also favourites of mine. Thanks, Ed!
Here's Ed's list. I didn't use all his words, but I didn't miss many, either.
River Ocean Love Moon Stars Strength Stream Crash Waterfall Splash Break Flow Murmur Trenches Gorges Downhill Lakes Mountaintops Bay Jungle Ponds

I love the questions you poise and then in the closing your answer. Beautiful writing, Kay!
Not the settling down type, I see! At least not in metaphor.
Oh Kay, you know how much your words resonate with me. So beautiful.
Great response, Kay!

I'll second Sherry's comment!! YAM xx
Nature--te first and last love of my life. This is lovely, Kay. I hope you are feeling better.
Dear Kay .... give me all nature to soothe my senses is the appropriate response to your probing questions.
…and I will love each part.
Very nice. Did you ever do any posts on Costa Rica? A pen pal of my daughters (and mine) (Skype - Facebook, etc :) for three years now I think - well, she lives in Casta Rica. I am planning a blog challenge soon on this area and looking up its poets, etc. I'd love to know the links if you did so I could read them. :)
this is absolutely beautiful.....
In love with nature:)
Kay, I love how you illuminated the many faces of water but did not choose sides. Loving them all is the best compromise, and that was a very satisfying end to this poem. Brill! Amy
It IS hard to choose between a mountain and a river for the one that moves the soul the most!
I love both, Mountains and River :)
they're really all one body of water anyways, so I'm going to cheat and say by loving one, we love the other as well :)
It is hard to choose one of nature's glories over another..your questioning brought the perfection answer.
I love your poem and I too could never pick~ Ahhh, nature soothes~
Nicely done Kay <3
Excellent conclusion Kay! Oh, and I got you email with the pushme-pullyou! That's great; thanks for sending it!
