Stay in the shadows or come out to pose?

Richard Schear, photos
I love the way the shadow of its own antlers fall on the face of the lovely Mule Deer in the photo above. Observing Dick and Lindy, who looked fairly tame but were, nevertheless, a man and a dog, the deer couldn't quite decide whether to stay or to flee.

After turning away to see if the bushes would be a good place to hide, the deer eventually decided Dick and Lindy were harmless, and stayed around for a nice photo shoot. More photos of this beauty with its beautiful velvet-covered antlers are being saved for next week.

In the meantime, these photos are posted for

You were fortunate to get these great shots. They normally take off with the slightest sound.
