Open Link Monday at the Imaginary Garden

This is the day Kerry lets us check our files or folders or backs of old envelopes to see if we have any poems hitherto held from public view, and I see I have a few.
Yes, that rhymes. No, it wasn't meant to.

I'm gradually using up my store of limericks written on a day when I was flush with limerical lyricism, but here's one:

All of the plots and the schemes,
A country’s empirical dreams
Can all come to nought
And not as they thought
When they all come apart at the seams.

Posted for the

I see I accidentally gave co-credit to my dog, Lindy, when I used the Real Toads linky tool. Lindy is an excellent companion, a dear and darling dog, with one or two talents, neither of them poetry writing, but I'll include a photo of her here, because her name appears in the Open Link Monday list.

It's fun to look back at the old scribblings and be surprised by ourselves, is it not?!

Have just checked the My Take Too link you mention and it worked fine - but I have noticed recently that I need to try things more than once at certain times of the day - I think Google are updating heaps again!!! YAM xx

A country's dreams are more than the politicians that drive them. They are about people who live them.

Love the lyrical limerick...fun, funny, and unFortunately, true!

Thanks for the intro to Lindy. I did wonder.

Oh Kay, you are just the best. How do you think of these brilliant pieces? I love the photo of Lindy who I'm sure, is added inspiration. (((Hugs))) Jo

Lindy is an honoured guest of Real Toads!

Your limerick highlights a serious issue within the fun of the rhyme and format.

I can't get used to your limericks. There's never a place name and they are never naughty! Don't get me wrong, they are nice.

Echoing Kerry's comment...

And I talk to dogs all the time. They compose poetry. I think much of it is along the lines of

Cat scat, I love that luscious treat
Along with grass it's what I eat
Then leave for you the mess to clean
In gravelly lumps of grey and green
Meanwhile back here I'll have a seat

Perhaps I should pay Mad Kane a visit. :)

You tell Lindy she's one hot pup! I really like the sledge hammer simplicity of this one Kay. It has a timelessness of subject matter for sure and we can all feel the consequences of empire building. Great job!

History would support this view-- but we have short memories.
Love your cautionary limerick. Lindy looks like a dear!

Love the limerick, but when will rich men stop repeating these mistakes? Ah, yes, the military-industrial complex... Sad but true, and ultimately just plain fun. Amy
