It's late, everyone's asleep and my ear aches

The dog is asleep, too, and there's no point in waking her up.
I haven't had an earache in so long, I have no idea what to do for it. Do I sleep on that side (my usual side) or roll over?
My first effort at online research basically said to take to aspirins and don't call anyone until morning.
It really does hurt. I didn't fall. I didn't bash it against anything, and no one else bashed anything against me.
I'm tempted to see if chocolate chip cookies (taken internally, not in the ear) will help, but I'm always tempted to take chocolate cookies internally, so that is more a reflex action than an intelligent idea.
Would it be just my imagination that thinks the earache is getting in to my throat? Are sore throats and earaches related?
I'm supposed to be writing a poem (a romantic chanson about liederhosen as far as I can figure out from Kerry's prompt) for Real Toads.
But I can't.
Wikimedia
Sigh.
So I looked up ears again. Here are some British Columbia mountains, which I have seen often, they are twin peaks called Golden Ears, and, while lovely, don't make me feel any better.
still Wikimedia
Here they are again, twice more, from slightly different angles under different weather conditions. Perhaps I do feel slightly better. No, I really don't.

Rabbit ears always remind me of early television.
Wikimedia
And sheep's ears? I guess they help the sheep hear the shepherd.

My ears still hurt, as does my throat and my jaw. I looked up those three things together and got TMJ, which doesn't stand for Throat My Jaw, but Tempromandibular Joint something-or-other. Just as I was going to start posting pictures of interesting human ears.
Even though it's a sultry summer night, perhaps I'll follow the TMJ advice a bit: heat and pain killers, not too much of either one.
Can't hurt. Might help.
And you can call me in the morning.

Poor Kay! I have a balky tooth in the back that used to bother me sometimes and get quite painful. The ache would spread to my neck and ear until the whole side of my head hurt.

By the way, you are not the only person awake. I seem to be sleepless, tonight, for some reason. :-(

Are you sure you don't have an ear infection?

Dear Kay, I do hope that your earache is gone now! I rinse all aching places of my body with seasalt water. It cleans and protects infected areas . But an earache? I think you should see the doctor! Good luck and a speedy recovery, Kay!

Kay, I'm sorry to hear you have ear pain. Yes there is a link between the ear and the throat through the eustachian tube.

I think gentle warmth/heat might be good for your ear. I remember I used to hear my mom say that my grandfather used to use the home remedy of onion (oil) for ear aches but I don't know how to prepare it. I read you can also warm some olive oil and this might help. I also read you should prop your head up when you go to sleep (don't lie with your head too flat). I hope you can get to see the doctor for a "look see".

Good idea! Home remedy is quite an in-thing, Kay! Hope it'll just go off! Such things have a way of solving itself! Nicely Kay!

Oh dear, a bad ear? TMJ tension usually manifests with locking of the mandibular - been grinding your teeth lately??? Sore throat is more suggestive that you may have infection - either of the inner ear itself or of the Eustacian tube. Either way, m'dear, if it's still there in the morning, I'd consider seeing doc; possible antibiotics condition.

Ahem. Sorry, that brought out the physician in me! Nice exploration around the possible use of chocciechippiebiccies though!!! &*>

Hope you feel better, kiddo. Your post gave me the courage to post my response to Verse First. So thank you!

I always advise my clients: get on top of the pain, as it is too hard to keep it at bay once you are in the throes of pain.
That said, I had a major headache yesterday, and no pills on our day trip. argh
