I came across a folder entitled "For Open Link" and looked inside, where I found this poem.
Somewhere in the deepest, dimmest, darkest reaches of my mind I suspected I'd used the poem here already, so I did a search of most of the words via the Real Toads "Search this blog" link, but the poem didn't come up.
Fortunately, we don't have to write new poems for Open Link Monday at the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads. However, and unfortunately, I suspect we're not expected to re-use poems, either.
Nevertheless, here it is in front of me, and here am I, with "a code id by node" that makes me very tired, as well as sneezly, sniffly, snuffly, and generally unfit for concentration, so I'm going to use it.
Apologies if you've already seen it (something niggles in my mind, saying Kerry has already seen it, but I don't know why) and I promise not to do this again. The poem, in its folder, will now go into the July folder which, in turn, will go into the 2013 folder at the end of the month, never to emerge again in this or any other lifetime. Cross my heart.

Jewelry
by Kay L. Davies, as far as I know
a golden sun
in a silver sky
where platinum clouds are born
above the earth,
which emerald greens
and sapphire blues adorn
turquoise, pearl,

and mother-of-pearl
with silken splendor
the robes of an earl
both princess
and pauper
love shining copper
in bands
and braids
and bracelets
but, no diamonds
for me, if you please,
the price in blood
is too steep
they’ll haunt my dreams
as I go through my day
and keep me awake
as I sleep.

:)The best jewelery one can have
Those priceless jewels are there for us all! I hadn't seen this lovely poem before, Kay and love it! Sorry you're feeling poorly. Hope you get well soon. (((Hugs))) to you all. Jo

Agreed even though it's a girl's best friend. Great write Kay, not seen it before!

lovely opening, the best jewlry I agree.
Enjoyed the references to Jewellery very clever and enjoyed the write overall :)
It's a very colourful and precious poem, and I agree with the last lines.
BTW Kay your photos are on my blog now!

I'm liking this, Kay. Welcome to the club. My feelings are that mine is not a 'keeper' (I played with it last week and hurridly finised it last night), but yours is nice.
I did look for rubies, my birthstone, and for garnets (Mrs. Jim's stone). Diamonds would keep me awake too. But that is not the reason I don't have any. :)

brava! its new to me so i dont care if its a re-run
The cost is way too steep! Well done.
Had never read that one before, but glad I got the chance this time. Hope your code is better!
I'm so glad you posted this, Kay, and that I got to read it. It is one of your best. Lovely.

Oh no, not a code id da dose.... join da club!!! oh well, at least you had something to fill this gap and beautiful it is too. Coddle yourself and blow it away! YAM xx
I love the statement this makes! Well done, Kay!
Oh I feel the same about diamonds. I have some rings that have small diamonds that I got before I really knew the price paid in human suffering to get them. I will never buy another one.
Feel better, dear Kay.
Kay, it is YOU who are a gem. i mean really. priceless!
Love the final sentiment and agree 100%, Kay. Blood diamonds, tragic.
Also thought the pauper might like to see a copper in the pocket, but that would have messed up form!
Nice rhymes, and fun to muse on gemstones once in a while, huh? Well done. Amy
