bask like a shark
until nearly dark
then move like
a moth to the light
close up like a clam
eye of the barnacle
knows where I am
pink as a shrimp
dainty as a bee
fly like a bird
or swing through a tree
pretty as a picture
quiet as a mouse
you’re always welcome

I love this poem, Kay. The sounds throughout are very joyous and the idea behind the poem is filled with human kindness.
A friendly gesture to accommodate all kinds of challenges. This sometimes happen in life! Great take Kay!

I began by thinking of Cassius Clay/Mohammad Ali...ended up cuddled in a welcoming warmth.
Thank you, Kay, we may come back some day. Love your poem and all its similes.
At first I thought your poet was doing all the action but then I realized that I, the reader, could do all these things if I would come to her/his house.

I do not know what kind of dogs are on my blog. I took the picture on the street in Copenhagen. One never knows when a picture like that will come in handy for a blog post

Beautiful...you have a wealth of friends :)
Kay, this reminds me a bit of Ogden Nash, one of my favorites.
The extravagant welcome afforded to all those creatures... I just KNOW you would not cook any of them, either! Very sweet poem, Kay, Amy
Then I'd feel obliged to bring a bottle to share :) ~ M
