Viking River Cruises, photos |
The Viking Surkov, a big, beautiful, river cruise ship. |
Well, I've already mentioned it on Facebook, and it is almost all set. We've talked to Viking River Cruises, and to Air Canada, and it looks like we're going to visit Russia this summer.
I am in shock. It seems like yesterday we were doing the Tulips & Windmills Cruise with Viking River but, actually, yesterday they sent an e-mail offering a price Dick couldn't resist.
A few more things to finalize, maybe a few bugs to iron out, like the easiest way to obtain Russian visas for our passports, and then...
St. Petersburg, how can anything be more beautiful? Yusupov Palace where the infamous Rasputin died? How can anything be more thrilling? And Moscow? How can anything be more mysterious? Plus, in between, quaint riverside towns: Mandrogy and Kizhi; the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery; Yarosavl, and Uglich.
Yes, we had decided we wanted to do Viking's Waterways of the Czars cruise, but to do it this year? The possibility never once entered my head.
By the way, if you decide to book a cruise with Viking River for the first time, mention our names—Kay Davies and Richard Schear—for a discount! This will be our third time with them (if this isn't all a dream) and we were delighted with them in both Europe and China.

Oh, Kay … I can hear the excitement right through your words. WONDERFUL WONDERFUL adventure ahead!!!
That cruise sounds like a lot of fun. I have been on several cruises but not a river cruise, yet. We did go to St Petersburg several years ago. I rented an apartment downtown for a week so we would have plenty of time to visit the town, the museums and the surrounding area and we loved it. There is so much to see.
WOW!!! This is going to be so exciting going along with you. Love your travels!
I'm jealous. I've never been on a cruise or out of the country. Have a yummy time.

Kay, that is exciting. So many things to see and do, I will be looking forward to your photos and stories.
The closest I have been to Russia is Nome, AK. But the last few years I was in AK I met several Russian citizens, they were some of the nicest folks I have ever met.
Oh, Kay...how wonderful...you and Dick will have an amazing time! What a treat!! I would love to visit Russia...I imagine once I got into the buildings of The Hermitage, I might be seduced by all that beauty and never leave again...LOL.
I look forward to the spectacular photos you'll be sharing with us...:)

Viking Cruises was a bit more expensive from the islands because of the airfare. Wow! Russia? That's fabulous!!! That's going to be so much fun!

How marvelous! I'm looking forward to the blog posts already.
Very exciting! It's good to know that you're going with a company with which you're familiar - it will almost feel like home, on board at least. Summer's not far off . . .
I might just be jealous! :-)
Ohhh...that's wonderful. I love Europe, but hate flying there! I hope your weather will be as great this summer as it was during the spring!
