Watery Wednesday in Carcassonne, France

My last post of Carcassonne photos.
This lock is opening to let boats through. Photos above taken from the bridge across the Canal du Midi, which connects Carcassonne with its train station.

A bridge across the River Aude connects the present-day city with the ancient walled city. The photos at right and below were taken from the bridge.

© Photos taken from the bridges and in the city by Kay Davies and Richard Schear, April, 2011.

Pigeons nest in hollow trees along the River Aude.

A fountain in the city of Carcassonne. (Not taken from either bridge.)

I really like the idea of a bridge between old and new places in the town, Kay! The photo of one bridge appears to have a gap. From a distance, it does look like a fairly easy jump, however. :)

wow. Just beautiful. Love the bridge and all the photos. How awesome that you can travel to some of the most interesting places.
Thank you for sharing.

@ Penelope — Oops, that's not the bridge. We were standing on the bridge when the picture was taken. That is a lock, which opens to let boats in and out.

I am so curious and would like to experience when the lock opens and our boat would pass.

I wish to be like you someday, a world class traveler!

Very beautiful pictures, particularly of the pigeons nesting in the hollow trees.

I had to enlarge each of your photos for a better look, each one is so intriguing. The building beside the boat dock, places to stay perhaps?

Those locks are prettier than the ones we go through here in Florida! (The surrounding countryside is beautiful too.) Neat place -- our kind of place!
