Special shadows in a special Dutch town

Of all the places we visited in The Netherlands, my favorite was Hoorn. Heading back to the Viking Pride after our long walk through Hoorn, I made Dick stop while I photographed these: an old anchor and an old propeller. I would guess they're probably from a fishing boat, or a large pleasure craft. I loved their shadows. Even the chain holding the propeller has cast a bit of shadow for Tracy's meme:

I love the character in old weathered things
you have captured their beauty well

That anchor is huge! Great shadows in both pics!

@ Dimple — Thanks. Yes, the anchor is big, but I've seen bigger when I lived on the west coast. I left a bit of the parked car in the photo to give an idea of the size, but it may not give an accurate idea. The anchor is probably a yard long, or maybe a meter (39").

You had to keep your head down to get these shots!

I HAD A LITTLE SHADOW
(With apologies to Robert Louis Stevenson)

I had a little shadow
No bigger than my thumb;
I took him to the meadow
And there I gave him rum.

My drunken little shadow
Did weave and bob and pitch;
He stumbled from the meadow
And fell into a ditch!

I love the old anchor with the striations in the mud, Kay. Really good texture throughout the entire image.

The prop and anchor seem so out of place on land and away from the water. Yet, in style and color, the sit on the shore as artistic pieces. The oxidizing rust adds a neat hue to each, and the shadows of each are equally artistic. Nice find!

@ Ralph — they weren't far away from water. They were just across the path. There's a LOT of water around and in The Netherlands.

They seem so strange and alone when viewed out of their element and cast aside, even though they are vital on a boat at sea. I wonder what tales they could tell?

Wonderful sharp shadows! Bits from boats are so romantic somehow - and anchors . . . well;-)(I wonder about myself sometimes!)

I like this kind of dramatic shot best.

I'd love to travel like you do. With us it's Beloved who is the Unfittie, so we don't travel together at all now.

These tools of the sailor do make interesting shadows. I like to take pictures of discarded implements, I guess that is why I like Bodie State Park, lots of old stuff there.

@ Boonie — "into a spin" — you're just like my husband and my brothers. LOL

Great shadows for the week! It's funny how we tend to gravitate to shadows - the other stuff is secondary!
Have a wonderfuil week!

There is something about boat parts --- like old abandoned boats -- that makes you want the whole story. Nice shadows.
