Blue skies of Carcassonne, France

Bird on a wire
Photo by Kay Davies, April, 2011

Carcassonne is an ancient city, and the fortifications that can be seen today were restored following its demolition in 1849.

Carcassonne is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A beautiful place that I have read about and seen on TV Kay and your pictures bring it more to life. By the way i have been meaning to ask - what exactly is an "unfittie" and is it dangerous?

I very much like that lamp in the first photo!

This kind of place should be restored. It's so nice to see and visit historical places. So we in this new generation would appreciate of who we are today. Great shot and thanks for sharing.

I have great imaginations..with or without the lamp on the first shot, it looks like a tiara.. I also particularly like the wind vanes on the castles.

The roofs are fascinating, and I wondered about the interiors behind the windows in the fortifications.

Thanks, I enjoyed visiting Carcassonne!

Aptly named, "Blue skies of Carcassonne, France". The pictures of the beautiful buildings and backdrop really capture the essence. Thanks!

Bits of buildings, lots of blue!

SKY DITTY

A little birdie told me,
Although I don’t know why,
That if I were to look up,
Way up into the sky,
I’d see some wondrous planets,
The moon and sun and stars –
There before my very eyes
Blazed Jupiter and Mars!

The skies are beautiful and the buildings magnificent. This is a place I would love to visit someday. The gargoyle looks lonely, was he the only one?

What an incredible place - I love the conical roof on each of the towers, which you've captured perfectly against that amazing sky. It looks like perpetual summer. This is yet another place I have to visit. That "must see" list is getting longer and longer the more I read your blog.

Beautiful pictures and certainly a lovely area. However, have you ever read any of Kate Mosse's books about Carcassonne? Shows it in a completely different light! Have a great weekend x
