The Meerkats always remind me of my dog, because she can stand like that. And speaking of my dog, I'm glad you got a chuckle out of that singing basenji. She wasn't in pain, as I can testify from my own dog's "singing." Some basenjis are just plain hams.

And I LOVE "Goodbye My Lady." My second basenji is named after the dog in that book/movie. I wrote a post about it here, if you're interested:

Have a great weekend, Kay!

I love watching meerkats. I'd love to go back to the San Diego Zoo. I'd forgotten what a great place that was.

Kay, in my post today I referred to my friend Sheryl, known in the blogosphere as tapirgal... She's a tapir expert and will be delighted with that super shot of the tapir. I have to remember to point her to it.

Wonderful photos of the zoo animals, Kay. The great ape is my favorite.

Delightful shots!

Great tapir pic! Thanks to Francisca for finding it on your blog. Last time I was there, the "beautiful, natural" enclosures made it hard to see them and almost impossible to take photos. I like the old enclosures from the 1960s!

@ tapirgal -- glad you like the photo. We were there in 2006 and this fellow (gal?) was right out in the open, so it was easy to get this picture.
