Camera critters: curassows and chachalaca
I had chosen a cute little animal for Camera Critters this week, but then I came across our pictures of these birds, identified them using our book Birds of Costa Rica and had to share them.
The top photo shows a pair of Great Curassows, with the female in the small photo on the left. Her mate is in the top photo to the right. Below him is a Chachalaca (isn't that a fun name?) trying to compete with smaller, faster birds for the food put out at the Villa Decary in Costa Rica. (Note: The three small photos do not enlarge well, but the first one does.)

What elegant looking birds!
Great shots of the stunning birds.
Interesting top knots on those! I like chachalaca, too!
Thanks for the visit!
Very regal and beautiful birds
Love their names. Wonderful photos of beauatiful critters.
They look so unusual!
Yes, they do look unusual. We couldn't believe they were real when we first saw them. And then when they started walking -- they're just a hoot when they walk on those long skinny legs.
Extraordinary Birds ! Thank you to share with us...very nice captured
Cool looking birds, I love Costa Rica, such a great place to vacation.
I have never heard of these birds before! Fascinating photos! They look like a species of peacock!
Very beautiful birds and photos. The first shot is amazing when enlarged.

What interesting looking birds, great shots
Such beautiful creatures. Great shots.
lovely pictures !
Those a very regal looking birds, Kay! Super for Camera Critters! Are you scanning photos or did you go digital quite early?
@ Francisca -- I don't think I went digital early, but I don't remember when. However, we had digital cameras when we started our world travels. I just wish I could find my 1982 Australia pictures to scan. Sigh. They are "somewhere" -- wherever that is.

Fantastic birds! I have visited Costa Rica and was lucky for having seen many of the wildlife but I don't remember any of these.
so cute. i would love to follow them around with my camera on hand.
These are great birds! Not sure I would have ever seen them if you hadn't shared your photos.
How beautiful the birds composed themselves in the shot!
