War for day 4? Not if I can help it

Izy has taken her Out of Standard challenge to a new level for today's "chapter in our Prompt a Day parade" for the online writers' group Imaginary Garden with Real Toads.

For this prompt, Izy shows us a video clip entitled This is the Way the World Ends, showing Justin Timberlake lip-synching the chorus from "All these Things that I've Done" by the singing group The Killers, from the 2006 movie Southland Tales.

She asks us to watch the video, and be inspired by it, because it has inspired her in the past. My poem, based on viewing the film clip twice is:

I’ve got soul
but I’m not a soldier.
if you’re coming to kill,

I’ll defend with my words—

I’ll defend with my songs—

beautiful ladies
with cottonball hair
are depending on me
to make sure the world ends
with music
with song
Timberlake
and with dance

with frolic
with fun
and romance

with laughter
with light
and every-
The Killers
thing bright,

and I won’t
let them down
at the end,

no, my friends,
I will not
let you down
at the end.

Reminds me of Nero fiddling (or playing the lyre) while Rome burned.

Ah, so the world doesn't end with a bang or a whimper but with a song and dance! Nice one Kay.

A nice poem and I like the spirit of song and dance until the end.

Go out dancing. There are worse fates!

Well, thanks for explaining it to me, Kay. The whole thing looked like a remake of a bad thirties musical to me. ;_) But now I get it.

I love how you integrated the "cotton ball" haired ladies and the lines of I got soul, but I'm not a soldier. This piece has a contagious upbeat tone and yet is heartbreaking in it's declaration of here til the end. So well done...viva la

All I can say is, if there is such a thing as Judgment Day, Justin Timberlake is gonna have a lot of 'splainin' to do!@! Great take on the end of the world, hon.

Somehow, the band who played while the Titanic sank was what I would want to listen and dance too... but to each his own :) Great take on the prompt.
