Passing through for Our World Tuesday

To travel through Italy, we used the train. Many places were just names on signs beside the track as we sped by.

Modern advertisements contrast sharply
with elegant old railway stations.

other worlds.

Signs similar to this one, which shows the route between Pisa and Florence, were supposed to be in every train car. In some, however, we found them lacking, which resulted in some confusion on our part, we must admit.

Wonderful place names with a familiar ring to them. I think I would have alighted at Genova and mozzied around the streets of that delightful old city for a while.

It is a little disconcerting, indeed, to find modern ads for cosmetics and skin creams under such elegant and grand archways. I admire how you set off on your own for some of the trip to explore and sometimes take few missteps that result in a trip that becomes even more memorable in time.

It's great to travel but you never get to see everything! Sometimes, you just have to make up your own stories about the towns you will never see. Love you post.

Kay, I love your photography and your travels. I agree, that ad for Nivea (the name is even icky) throws off the whole motif of that historic station. What a shame! Still, lovely pix, all. Amy

What an exciting trip and that railway station is just so elegant - a reminder of a bygone age.

Train travel is such fun, though! Those arches at the station are quite magnificent. Confusion is part of the deal. YAM &*>

But you got where you wanted to get and you got back home, so you managed somehow. Well done!!!

I love to travel by train, I find it utterly relaxing. I wish there were more and better train connections here in the US.

I love train travel, particularly long distance.
It’s so much more civilised than car or plane.

It's good that you waited until we knew you were home safe to post this ;>)...so we know you're not still wandering around in the station or on the trains. I probably would be.

Thanks for posting to OWT. I'm finding I am always busy at 3 pm when Sandy demands I post and no one looks at my blog post! Oh dear...
Thankless sometimes...

I haven't ever been to Italy but I've traveled in several countries in Europe by train and I think it's a great way to see a country.
