C is for cactus, coulee, and cats

There are several kinds of cactus growing wild in our area. This round one has multiple flowers, perhaps so it will show up better and not be stepped-upon as it is otherwise well camouflaged in the desert landscape of southeastern Alberta.

This year the coulee near our neighborhood has been very green. I discussed the word "coulee" last month in response to a question from a blogger friend. You can find it here.

The coulee in this photo isn't quite as green, but water can be seen in it.

We call this cute kitty the "coulee cat" because Dick and Lindy see it often but it never pays any attention to Lindy. It has its own to-do list when it's out there.

Lindy would have ignored this pretty orange cat but it hissed at her, so she turned her head.

This cat didn't know what to make of Lindy, either.

All wonderful C photos, Kay. It always surprises me to see such lovely blossoms on a spiny, old cactus. :)

Lovely hunting grounds for cats. The cactus is very pretty, quite low-lying so I can see it might be overlooked.

Omw, Kay, that last cat has a tail like Shadow has when afraid or angry. I love the shots of all the cats and the fact that Lindy turns her head, such a lady. Blessings Jo

Lovely cactus - never seen one like that before. Poor old Lindy getting hissed at - cats are cantankerous as well as cute and cuddly :O)

Ooooh... That cat is to be avoided. You can see the hair standing on end. The coulee is just gorgeous! I love the cactus flower.

Hi Kay!
For some reason, I am always surprised to find or hear about cactus in areas with cold winters. Doesn't make sense, but it's true.

Your cactus has beautiful flowers!

What a great take on our C week! I suppose that cat was out looking for its next meal and couldn't be bothered with humans. Have a nice week, Kay.

Love the flowers on the cactus. The cats are cute too especially the coulee cat. How did you manage to hold on to Lindy and snap photos at the same time? I guess Lindy doesn't go after cats like Clifford does.

Never hear the word Coulee here in B.C. Kay, but it was familiar to me in my childhood. However, there are lots of beautiful cactus here, - and cats. Great post!

Gorgeous coulees! And, I find myself wondering why so many cats there (one had tags). Don't the wild critters eat them?

What wonderful scenic beauty!

Neat to see how far north cactus can be found.

Hope that you visit my Calm & Peaceful post.

The landscape reminds me of Washington state. A few hours in any direction brings a traveler to desert, mountain, rain forest, ocean, and on and on.

Nice collection of cats for Lindy.
