Fireblossom Friday in the Garden

At the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads, Fireblossom has asked us to write a poem on redemption. She said redeeming a coupon wouldn't be a very exciting write, but she didn't say we couldn't mention coupons.
As some of you already know, I'm working my way out of a head cold that started as a chest cold (gotta do everything backward) so today's poem is short. Some of the lines I didn't even write, but quoting them fit the word count I randomly imposed on myself.

I took my life,
exchanged it for a new one,
as if I’d been a coupon in a store.
Got rid of strife,
found serenity instead,
but must still recall what life was before.
“Those who cannot
  remember the past are
  condemned to repeat it.” Santayana

So true...love the wisdom in this, Kay. :)

Short but works well, Kay. A classic quote, and a hard one to internalize, even as we realize the merit intellectually. I'm so sorry to hear you are STILL ill--I hope you feel better soon.

Trust you to make something of the coupon, Kay, and turn it to an excellent metaphor for life.

Very cool! What if we got a coupon book as a child with just so many coupons--say 4-- for any time we wanted to make a change--change parents, for example. I wonder how many of us would still have a full coupon book at death?

I'd lose mine in the wash for sure.. and be doomed never to have a second chance. :) This is perfect.

Kay, loved your reference to coupons, but then you offered a poem that gets to the heart of living. Questioning your past actions, trying not to repeat mistakes, and looking to the future with one eye on what's gone on before.

Loved the quote; I often use it as well, especially these days, as people are demonized. I'm so dismayed that Sen. Joe McCarthy was from Wisconsin!! But that's what it feels like, as though no one remembers that era of watching your speech lest you fall.

Illuminating. Peace, hon. Amy

I'm so glad you found a more peaceful place, Kay.

I have been sick, too. We are quite a pair, aren't we?

Not sure what tradin value would be left in this wreck - but it's a nice thought.

One never seemed to learn! And this is a common trait. Nice thoughts Kay!
