Skywatch Friday
Last month, for a few days, I was in the American state of Virginia, which has a long (we're talking early 1600s), rich history, some of it good, some of it not so good, depending upon who you ask.
I had flown to Washington DC and taken a train as far as Newport News, VA, where I rented a car with a not-very-communicative GPS and headed for Yorktown, where the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge would take me across the York River to Gloucester and Mathews counties.
Before I reached the bridge, however, I saw a sign that said "Last exit before bridge" and turned off. Much to my delight, my detour led me to these wonderful old Colonial houses.

I got a little bit lost a couple of times before reaching my final destination in Mathews County, but the people of Virginia are invariably kind and helpful, with storekeepers willing to let customers wait while they talked to me about maps and secret shortcuts.

Beautiful skies Kay... especially that bridge shot!
Nice post, perfect for the sky-theme!
It looks as though it was a lovely detour!
Great
Oh, I like the bridge shot!
Looks like you had a nice trip.
Looks like like you had a nice adventure.
The skies in all the photos look beautiful. But the shot of the bridge against beautiful sky is superb! What an interesting post for Swatch Friday
Wonderful houses Kay. I'm sure you had a great time there.
Lovely photos, Kay, and how cool that you had that little side-trip en route to your destination. I, too, was wishing you could have taken a shot from the top of the bridge.
Those little houses are so charming!
Great shots! It was fantastic seeing you, we really enjoyed having you here. Now that you know the way, you must return.
There are always wonderful shots to be taken in those Virginia towns. Eye Spy a little cemetery in the shot of the trees. That would be worth exploring for some shots I'm sure.
Lovely skies.
