While walking our dog Lindy this week, my husband saw a bird of prey sitting on a post.
He was able to take many photos of it because the bird didn't seem to be in a hurry to go anywhere.
However, it didn't turn around, or spread its wings, or do anything much except sit.
This made it quite difficult for me to identify it, but its white face and narrow tail finally led me to decide it must be a Swainson's hawk.
Another factor, of course, is the Swainson's is the most common hawk in Alberta.

Always cool to see a Hawk, they are awesome birds. Thanks for sharing, have a great week!
Great observations, Kay! Thanks for sharing!

Looks like the bird was comfortably settled on the post or focused on something and wasn’t about to be distracted by a man with a camera or his dog. :)
Interesting look at your world.
I think hawks are beautiful creatures. Great pics of this one.
Nice capture!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Interesting photo essay. That pooch is adorable.
Cheers ... visiting from Our World Tuesday.
Now, here's something completely different:

Hawks are always good to observe. Well captured.
What a great sighting! Love the shots too.
Great birds! Ola says hello, he became Best in Class at a guinea pig exhibition this weekend. He gets what he needs then - it is good for us to know. Noor had a tick and couldn't participate due to getting under the weather, but he jumps up and down here now and says hello to Lindy.
He looks like he's posing for the camera! (We get Cooper's Hawks around here. I think they're gorgeous birds, and love it when one perches in the oak tree by my window, close enough to photograph, but I do hate it when they kill the doves :(
it seems to be waiting ... perhaps its expecting lunch or dinner to be 'delivered' .. .:)
Hawks seem to have a favorite post -- I always see one on a certain pole on the road to our daughter's....I wish I'd see one where I walk, instead of where I drive!
Great captures of the hawk.
Nice shot of the hawk.Have a great day!
