R is for Roberto, who grew up around dune buggies...

AND R IS FOR ROB, WHO STILL LOVES TO HAVE A DUNE BUGGY IN THE GARAGE
BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN A DAY WILL BE JUST PERFECT FOR A RIDE
MY BROTHER ROB'S BUGGY BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF HIS LIFE IN MEXICO WHERE HE SPENT MANY WINTERS WITH MOM AND DAD

YOU JUST KNOW THE DUNE BUGGY WILL HAVE ALL EYES ON IT AS IT CRUISES "THE STRIP" (EVERY TOWN HAS ONE) WHERE GOOD CARS GO TO BE DRIVEN, TO BE SEEN, TO BE ADMIRED, TO BE CAREFULLY TOUCHED, TO BE CLOSELY INSPECTED, MAYBE EVEN TO BE CAPTURED DIGITALLY FOR A PHOTO MEME!

ROB'S DUNE BUGGY HAS BEEN POSTED AS PART OF THE
ABC WEDNESDAY PHOTO MEME

What a great choice for the R day. That is such a cute buggy. It kind of reminds me of the Love Bug, remember those old movies.

All eyes would definitely be on this car should it ever leave the garage. Rob is the perfect R word for your post, Kay! I can easily see him scooting around happily in this animation-like vehicle. :)

Oh wouldn't it be rad to ride around on Rob's dune buggy! Lucky you! :D

@ Leslie -- No, not lucky me. I tried to get into it and couldn't - no doors, and I'm not very spry any more.

@ Penelope - Keep your eyes on his garage come spring.

Hey, hey, hey! Superb R - love those rigs... :)

@ EG Wow -- this is the second one Rob's managed to find and have decorated to his liking. His first one looked a lot like the one our dad had in Mexico, except Dad made a roof for his, out of a sheet of plywood, with a Canadian flag painted on it. He called his dune buggy the Baja Cannonball.

This made me think of my brothers (I ave four). Two of them are named, Robert and Roy. Neither of them have dune buggies, though.

Great take on the letter R. The dune buggy eyes are hilarious. Thanks for your comment on mine and that is so great that your Dad was able to work with stone. That would be a wonderful talent to have.

That is definitely a car to be preserved and treasured, Kay!!

Did you ever get your Visa gift card? I hope, by now, it is all spent!

Hahaha, I love the eyes!

That looks brilliant. I would love to hitch a ride in one of those, but knowing myself, I would probably want to drive the thing!

What a fabulous little car and so well loved and cared for. I'm sure it turns heads when it's careering along the road.

Is a dune buggy what I think it is? A mode of transport to ride about in on sand?

@ Friko -- That's right, that's what a dune buggy is. It is actually a Volkswagen with an altered body, and a roll bar, and special tires. Rob has street tires on this one. My parents and "Roberto" lived for many winters in the desert in Mexico's Baja, where almost everyone had a dune buggy, certainly all the "residentes" - the resident foreigners. Dad used his to get to the best fishing spots. He was a sport fisherman, an outdoor writer, and a travel writer.

I remember dune buggies. They used to be quite popular here in the 70s. I wonder what happened to all of them...This one is well preserved!
