My Casual but Comfy Yard is My World for this Tuesday

Nobody could ever accuse me of being a gardener.
If things grow in my yard, they grow in spite of my benign neglect.
But I do love to plant trees and bushes.
This is one of my favorites, a deliciously scented Mock Orange.
It has a short blooming season and the blossoms are short-lived,
so I appreciate them all the more.

I planted a few Explorer Rose bushes, and this is the only one that survived.
I forget which Canadian explorer it's named for,
but it blooms non-stop from spring until autumn.

This is my pet peony, and this is the first year I ever had blooms on it.
I only had three or four blooms, but they were lovely.
It's wonderful to have photos of flowers to post here on a day when a snowstorm is in the forecast.

This isn't in our yard. This is a wild thistle Dick saw on the prairie while walking Lindy.
I think it's just as beautiful as anything I could ever grow.

I agree about the thistles, Kay. They are as pretty as any flower. But perhaps a little more difficult to touch. It must be very peaceful spending time in your “comfy yard”. Hope the snowstorm isn’t too severe.

For a moment there I thought you lived "down under" and it was springtime in your world. Took me a few reads to realize these are from another time. Nice reminders of what was.

Hi, K. thanks for dropping by Petty things in Life...

Wow, your world is so refreshing ... how I wish I can jump out of my mother-in-laws house and put-up a tent right there right now... need those greens to detoxify my mind ..

it's so frustrating seeing, feeling people thinking up to the ceiling only.

Anyway, why am I writing those frustrations of mine here, lol ... thank you for always putting on some smile on my face with your comments...

Regards,

You have wonderful yard with beautiful flowers.

I love all these shots. I've done both kinds of gardening (intense and laid back) and I actually prefer the look of wild gardens to carefully tended. At this point though my yard has sort of an abandoned look that I could stand to improve.

I have a small garden in which I grow mostly perennials -- the kind that disappear every fall and come back in the spring.

Wild gardens do give pleasant surprises, such lovely blooms. :)

Your mock orange is lovely, mine are in full bloom just now and I have about a dozen of them. I envy you your peonies though as it is far too hot to grow them here and I do love them so.
Most things thrive despite ourselves, they manage in nature so they have o complaints in a forgetful gardener's garden.

I love going to the botanical gardens to see the peonies. If I had a garden, I would definitely have several bushes out front to welcome me home.

Gardens are great and I enjoy puttering in mine but nothing can compare to natures garden. While hiking I am always wondering what what new plant I will find.

Lovely flowers, Kay..gorgeous peony! And I have always been a great fan of thistles and other plants that grow in the wild.

Hope the snowstorm isn't too bad for you. They're even talking snow for us here...we'll see what it develops into...:)

I wouldn't mind some snow, although I think I am probably the only one in the country right now!

I like your gardening style. It looks a lot like mine...

How I wish I have your green thumb. I love the garden and anything in it but somehow anything I try to plant just withers and dies. :-( These are beautiful flowers you have posted. Have a great week ahead!

Wow, gorgeous flowers! I just love that peony.

I love your phrase, 'benign neglect' and I envy you your peony. I planted two peonies about thirty years ago and they have never flowered. They didn't even grow very much, just limped on from year to year. Your rose is splendid, such a pretty pink. I prefer comfortable gardens - and so does the wild life :-)

Hi Kay! Thanks for showing us around in your beautiful garden among the bushes you planted! I also have peonies, but they are red!
Thanks for your visit to Remembrance Day. I also cry when I read that poem. My father was sailing during WWII from England to the USA and Australia. They carried weapons and munition and they sailed in convoy together with hundreds of allied vessels among them American, British, French and many Dutch vessels. My father was a happy young man before the war, but when the war was over he was really bitter and traumatized and only 42 years old. He had lost many colleagues whose ships were torpedoed. War is hell!

Your yard is beautiful -- and benign neglect is what I'd practice (if I had a yard)! I just admire the results of other people's work.

The last picture is great -- I never know whether to call plants (that aren't in peoples' yards) wildflowers or weeds, but I agree with you that they are often equally beautiful.

Wild flowers, and even weeds, can be so pretty! I like what you have growing in your back yard. I, especially, like flowers that are fragrant. When I lived in the South, I always planted night blooming jasmine so that, if it wasn't too sweltering, I could open windows and breathe in that heavenly scent.

The peonies remind me of my childhood. We had white and pink growing by the stream near our house. They always had ants, as I recall!

And I love the thistles, too. Such a pretty lavender...

Psst, Kay, those peonies, look like ruffles of a flamenco skirt! They are so lovely!

I confess I spent too much time on the computer. My garden is neglected too.

It is getting warm, butt I am too lazy to go out.

I like that you also found the thistle beautiful....
