First post with photos from my new camera, Skywatch Friday

It was a tough decision. Dick said he'd buy me a new camera, one with a viewfinder because sometimes I found myself holding the LCD screen up to my eye, which really doesn't work. However, he reminded me of one restriction: it couldn't be made in Japan, because we two are boycotting Japanese products until the country stops the dolphin slaughter.
Turns out most cameras are made in Japan these days. I didn't know that. So I got online and shopped 'til I dropped, which, for me, is sometimes not very long at all. (Click chapter headings in previous post to read about me and stamina.)
Finally, after several e-mails back and forth with my blogging pal Francisca, who really knows what she's about when it comes to cameras, we decided on a Samsung WB5500, with a viewfinder and a 26X zoom.
    Zoom, zoom!!
Therefore, today, instead of posting Dick's photos or my snapshots, I have proper Skywatch photos of my own. The sky wasn't doing much, mostly sitting there bluely above the snow below, but there were a few nice clouds and it was a tremendous improvement over this morning's sky, which was white itself and leaking white stuff, too. Not a pretty sight, photographically speaking.

Sitting there bluely,
above the snow below.
A few nice clouds.
And some interesting ones. Can you see a dog looking at a woman?

What fun! A new camera to learn about. And 26 X sure does seem like a lot. You are going to have a good time and, lucky us, we'll get to see the results!

Yes! Yes! I do see the dog looking at the woman. That's terrific.

I'm just doing a tiny bit of visiting at a time because I keep getting tired. I'm trying to get myself better by the time you get here... and then my daughter and her family.

Oh, it is great to get a new camera!! And you'll love it! I've had mine for over a year now, but my big thing now is to take a photography class which they're offering at a local college. My oldest son got me a tripod last year for my birthday and I would like to know how to make better use of it!
Your captures for the day are terrific! Hope you have a great weekend, Kay!

oh yes, - I see that dog looking back over his shoulder, - and what's that trailing behind the curly headed woman?? Great shots.

But what a beautiful blue it is. I'm sure you will enjoy the new camera. I know that not having a viewfinder would drive me crazy.

haha, my first time here. I know Alberta is very cold coz my friend transfered there. But your shot is good for that new camera. Is it a DSLR or a Point and Shoot, whatever the photos look great, clear skies even with the snow. We are on opposite parts of the globe.

Bravo! Nice photos Kay. Samsung is a good brand too. Hehehehe, my worst part is reading the manual...

Oh, I'm so happy for you, Kay. These photos look grand! Nice colors, good resolution. How is the LCD... this looks like a pretty bright moment when you were shooting your dog looking at woman... did you see it clearly on the screen? Does it feel nice to hold? YAY!

Hi Francisca -- thanks for asking. Yes, it was just fine on the LCD screen. I think it depends on my position and the sun's. Will be interesting to see how it works next month in Hawaii.

I would love a new camera but hate to give up my small point and shoot model. It is so easy to have with me everywhere I go.

Hawaii sounds like fun. I'll be looking for all the pics. - Margy

Lovely snowy 'snowy' blue skies! We'll be seeing similar ones here soon enough I'm sure!

Great shots, that is a beautiful sky.

You are going to love the viewfinder, I can't imagine having a camera without one.

Yay...a new camera...how exciting! We'll expect lots of shots now. Of course, one has to remember always to take it along...something I have gotten better at doing. It's horrid to spot a duck family crossing the road in front of you, or an extraordinary cloud begging to be captured, only to remember that the camera is happily napping in its bag at home..LOL!
