Excerpts from the real Unfittie: 210th post, 1st 'blogaversary'

WHY DID I START MY BLOG?
Because my husband always says, "I don't want to go without you." I have found myself in some surprising places over the past few years, and I've seen more than a few amazing things. It hasn't been easy for me, but I have come to believe it is better to go than to stay at home. In other words, I won't regret going, but I might regret not going.

An Unfittie's Guide
to Adventurous Travel
Okay, so you’re not as young as you used to be. You have pains in places where you didn’t used to have places, and...

This is a true story. It more or less has a beginning and an end, but it isn’t a novel and it doesn’t have a plot. It happened to me. The ‘I’ in the book is me, Kay Davies, a former workaholic and now a government-registered unfittie; the ‘he’ in the book is my husband Richard Schear, a senior who can still run fast enough to referee high school basketball and football.
The moral of this story should be immediately clear, but in case you’re having one of those days when the obvious doesn’t jump out at you (I have lots of those days), let me state the moral right up front.
The back of Dick's back, left, in the Galapagos.
Second from right is our fabulous guide, Karina Lopez.
Perhaps you’ve never really accepted being less than completely fit. Maybe your mental image of yourself is from an earlier time, when you felt ten feet tall and bulletproof.

Congratulations on your '1st blogaversary'!Amazing how much fun we have with blogging and how quickly the time flies, isn't it? I'm going on two and a half years in January and over 1500 posts! I've had a very full and exciting life, have traveled a great deal -- not as much as you, but a lot. Have lived in several other countries and I've loved it all. I didn't retire from my job until I was 67 and for a while I was lost! Then I found blogging and life took on a whole new aspect. I do have fun and have met so many incredible people -- such as yourself. It's been a great ride and isn't over yet!!! Hope you have a great weekend, Kay! Enjoy!

Happy Anniversary... I enjoyed your chapters and I can relate so much. Especially to steroids... once I went on IV treatments, my body and face changed and has never gone back. I admire that you still go on adventures...my hubby is too worried for me when we go away....Michelle

Congratulations Kay for your first year of blogging. Although I am not a very good writer, but I have honed my skills.

I will be celebrating my 2nd year in Jan next year with approximately 600 posts. I have also actually met in person bloggers from different States.

Blogging is a de-stressing past time for me.

It is also a pleasure meeting you in cyber space.

Cheers!

Yes, we do have to slow down a teeny weeny bit physically but whatever it is we have to keep healthy and moving. Keep up the good work, my friend.

I actually paused to read those four chapters. I can relate. Flying out west or driving down east is quite a challenge for me and my arthritic hip. And just last year I could walk the 20k to and around Stanley Park when we were in Vancouver, but now my foot hurts so much that I can hardly make it through a parking lot. I guess that's a slight exaggeration but not by much.

Now, don't gte me wrong because I thought ALberta was quite wonderful when I was there. But it surprises me that you moved there and not he to milder BC. I imagine that there are all sorts of good reasons, but still ...

I've learned a lot these last two months from my 94 year-old mom. She hasn't given up even though she is mostly paralyzed below the waist. She actively works with rehab and has made great progress. I only wish my attitude could be as positive as hers. I really admire your willingness to push the boundaries and do as much (and more) than you can do. - Margy

Happy 1st Blogaversary, Kay! You and I are living sort of a parallel life. I'm being dragged around all over the place, too. Art does all the planning and just pulls me along. Now he pulls my mother along, too. It's tiring at times but fun and interesting. My mother is actually almost getting used to it. Amazing! And of course, Art runs as well.
