His tools still hung on the wall and, on the shelf below, the bottle tilted, gathering dust. The last bottle. He’d never drink again now.
She went downstairs sometimes, to look. To look at his tools. To look at the bottle. To wonder what her life would be now, if he were still alive, if he hadn’t had that affair. With the bottle.

Liked it. Short and yet lingering.. it's a tough challenge this time:)
Great Magpie and so sad.
Very sombre, very succinct! I like it.
A nice piece of writing!
Thanks for sharing!

Have a beautiful day****
Talking about another coincidence: the word I had to type to validate my comment was "venes" which is an anagram of... seven of course;o)
Funny! Don't you think so?
Madame Ali Colic is a dangerous one. This is a good post
That brought me to another time and place.
My goal is to learn from all of you, to make every word count.
: )
Creative view of a difficult prompt.
Interesting and sad. I left before I could find that one out!
Well written and you can feel the pain she has.
So interesting...I can totally see what you saw in the picture, though I saw something completely different. I like your interpretation very much.
Compelling and so sad.
Yes, Kay. Poignant

How sad... so many people end up just this way, beautifully heart felt writing!
Intriguing! Did she hit him over the head with it?
I confess I thought it was a painting of a bottle and wrote accordingly.
Yes, alcohol gives life to a drink but takes life from a drunk... and from those who care!
Now I see that bottle! Nice take on the Magpie prompt
It's hard to justify an affair ... especially one like this. Nicely written!
This is a real life story which is repeated all too often...
Sad glance at a sad story told too many times in too many lives...nice mag!
Excellent, and so very sad. Happens more than we know, I am sure.
Compelling piece - nicely crafted!
A whole lifetime compressed into one paragraph. Liked the directness and honesty of expression.
wonderful.. Joan T
Very sad. I thought it looked a bit like a bottle as well upon first glance. Nicely done!
