Stopping halfway can be a lot of fun

Key West is full of lovely old "painted ladies" (above), which were enjoyed by me (below).
This must be where the USA begins (or ends), I guess.

Photos by Richard Schear.

Either the awning was made by two people named Bogart, or the place belongs to someone named Bogart who forgot an apostrophe, thinks the unfittie.

One of the the unfittie's favorite travel suggestions is to avoid long, long plane flights by stopping halfway. When we went to Costa Rica, we had to change planes in Miami, Florida. Rather than waiting in the airport between planes, we stayed in Miami for two days. After a good night's rest, we took a tour to the Florida Keys. We might have enjoyed stopping somewhere between the city and Key West but, in order to fit it into one day, we chose a tour allowing us time to see more of Key West instead. It wasn't too strenuous for me, and it gave my husband plenty of photo opportunities.

The destination on a vacation is only part of the whole trip. I like the way you took time along the way to experiences other places. Thanks for stopping by my blog to comment. My husband is the adventurer in the family and I tag along, sometimes reluctantly. His is much braver than I am when it comes to outdoor experiences. But once I learn that I can do something, then it becomes fun. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't stretch my possibilities, so I guess it's good to have him around. - Margy

Thanks, Margy. I never quite thought of it as stretching one's possibilities. Good description!! I guess the first 'sometimes reluctant' adventurer in my family was my mother, who was 'camp cook' to my father as he explored the rivers of BC. His books, "The Living Rivers of British Columbia" are no longer available in stores but his publisher, Ronsdale, in Vancouver, still has them. This blog of mine will, one day, I hope, be a book as well, but in the meantime I'm loving having it as a blog and getting comments from other bloggers.

sounds like a good plan & your photos of Key West look just as I remember it!

Thanks, Lily. I suspect Key West never changes much -- probably a local bylaw, but I like to think of it as suspended in time.

Great photos, sounds like a great idea stopping halfway. I've never been to Key West but I loved Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is an amazing place. SO far ahead of the rest of us ecologically. Costa Ricans love tourists but they're not ready to let progress of any sort destroy their beautiful country's natural resources.
