SkyWatch Friday: Marseille party sky

©  Richard Schear photo
The sky in the Mediterranean French city of Marseille was full of bright-colored pieces of paper, like giant confetti, during a huge city-wide party at the waterfront in the spring of 2011. There was a parade, there were performances, and there were plenty of people, in costume and in everyday clothing, from all over town as each neighborhood tried to outdo the other in style and pizzazz.

Watery world in Matisse country, Collioure

Yesterday's post for My World Tuesday showed a painting by the famous French painter, Henri Matisse, of fishermen on the beach, heading for their boats in the Mediterranean. The sea is an essential part of life in Collioure, France, as are the crops grown on the hillsides, another of Matisse's subjects.

The water there is clean and clear, with the bottom readily visible to passersby. My husband managed to capture a couple of shots of marine life as he strolled Collioure's scenic waterfront during our March/April trip to Europe this year.

I found a shady place to sit while taking my own photos, and caught up with him later, after most of his exploring was done.

Meditteranean reflections and more in Collioure

© Photos by Kay Davies and Richard Schear

The artist Henri Matisse found much inspiration in the beautiful seaside town of Collioure, France, near the Spanish border. When we visited in April, 2011, we were enchanted by the light and color, just as he was.

We found beautiful reflections in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, and in the windows of the homes and hotels in this delightful town on the Catalan coast.

Watery Canet Plage, Catalan coast, France

Posted for Watery Wednesday, wherein
2sweetnsaxy (aka T. Bruce Photography) invites us to get our eyes wet.

These photos are the last in a series on Canet Plage (Canet Beach) in southern France.
Sailing, swimming, sunning, funning...activities abound in this pretty town in
the Mediterranean area of Languedoc-Roussillon known as the Catalan Coast.

Canet-en-Roussillon, our world for a week

Across the street from the Europa Hotel, we could catch the bus to Perpignan, and up the street we could catch a bus to the beach at Canet Plage. The bus stops had great views of Mont Canigou.

Our apartment (we didn't get any exterior shots) had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small kitchen, a living area and a balcony big enough for a table, two chairs, and a folding laundry-dryer. The location, between Perpignan with its "center of the universe" train station (according to Salvador Dali), and Canet Plage with its beautiful Mediterranean beach, was perfect for our sightseeing needs.
Our condo at Malibu Village was the center of our world for a week in Canet-en-Rousillon. Here, Dick waits for me in the shade of the laundry room, while the camp tabby-cat sits in the shade of the wisteria pergola, hoping to see a lizard or something else to eat. Read about his hunting here.

Canet Plage, YELLOWS on Catalan coast, France

© Photos by Kay Davies and Richard Schear, April 2011

Christmas in April in Canet Plage? LOL

I would love to have this house because it's within walking distance of the bus and the beach!
Several mellow yellows reflected in the windows here.

These photos were taken in April at the Mediterranean seaside town of  Canet Plage (Canet Beach) in the south of France, near Perpignan, not far from the Spanish border. The Languedoc-Roussillon area, where Canet Plage is located, is historically considered part of Catalonia (Catalunya).
