Things lie heavy on my heart just now, and this poem came to me tonight.
A Prayer for R
and I know it will become real sorrow soon
the old should not outlive the young
whose days of fatherhood aren’t done
who wants to fish
who wants to swim
who wants to cook
who wants to look
at his small daughter as she sleeps at night
sadness sits upon the families now
and grief will come too soon to all of us
but I still pray
for another day
another week
a month
pray for a last-minute cure to be found
pray for eleventh-hour reprieve
pray for the young man who
will never know old age

So sorry, Kay. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Hugs. xx
Thanks, Penny. My niece's husband, 36, died at 1:30 this morning your time, after a long battle with leukemia. My brother says he was in good spirits, even cheering up his visitors. He will be missed by the whole family, none more so than their 6-year-old daughter.
Hugs to you, too.

Oh, Kay, so terribly sad. I think of that small girl and the missing she will carry with her as she grows......may your family comfort each other through this time of loss. He sounds like a wonderful young man.
So sorry. This is a perfect tribute. So tender.
I am so sorry, Kay. This is so very sad. 36 is far too young. My cousin, Peter also died far too young of leukemia and it seemed to come out of nowhere. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
My deepest condolences, Kay. I know you were worrying after your family.
Now the grief, mourning and bereavement begins.
He has a new home, a new body, and a new life. I firmly believe this.
You will watch over your niece, as well, and knowing you, all will be well in time.
Luv,
Jenn
Your poem is sad; I can feel your heart breaking.
My best wishes to the young family and you too.
Kay, I'm so sorry. I too am praying for that "young man who will never know old age." I hope it helped you to compose this beautiful/tragic poem.
