Z is for Zermatt, Switzerland

Courtesy of Mr. Google, this is the sort of picture most people see of Zermatt,
with its famous mountain known as the Matterhorn in the background.

Hotel in Zermatt.

We had spent a night in Geneva, Switzerland, got up very, very early, and took a train to a town called Visp. From there we took another train to Zermatt, where we boarded the luxury train called the Glacier Express, which travels from Zermatt to the renowned ski resort of St. Moritz. In the Wikipedia photo below, the Glacier Express is seen just before it enters Zermatt.

I was in Zermatt years ago and loved it - still do. I would love to return. YOur photos are beautiful and truly capture that year-round winter wonderland.

These mountains are very different than the Rockies that you would be more familiar with!

Super, looks a bit like the Matterhorn.

This is absolutely beautiful. Disneyland matterhorn is nice, but the real thing is awesome.

These mountains are so awsome! I like such high mountains, though I would never climb them. I admire mountaineers, for it must be very difficult. This week a Dutch woman was killed in the mountains, because she slipped and fell down.
Thanks for your visit and kind comment. Have a great day tomorrow! Love, Wil.

I'd have to look at my 'stuff' to find where I was - seems like Zugspitz? The village in your photos looks so familiar and the mountains are incredible!

Have wonderful memories of Zermatt. Including Germans on the train saying "wunderbar" in reaction to the stunning scenery.

A perfect Z post, Kay! The Glacier Express from Zermatt has the distinction of being the SLOWEST express train in the world... but that must have made it a fantabulous train trip! Besides, who'd want to really express it through that magnificent scenery?

Wow-it is amazing to think how good a job Disneyland did of recreating the Matterhorn!
I've sort of been to Zurich as a stoop over which was long enough for us to get a room to get some naps in!

You really have to admire the natural beaauty in Switzerland, but also the way it has been kept clean by its people. The pictures are excellent. Very nice to see the towering mountains and the little cascade at the end.
