Skies over the South Saskatchewan River

© Photos by Maria Davies

My brother Clint and sister-in-law Maria visited us this week from western British Columbia. We had a great time. One afternoon we went into the city to enjoy what I humbly call The World Famous Kay Davies Unguided Tour of Medicine Hat. Maria took these photos (thanks, Ria) when we stopped to look at the South Saskatchewan River and across to the northern shore. There were plenty of fluffy white clouds in a lovely blue sky. Later, however, when we stopped to enjoy a meal in the Jungle Cafe at the Medicine Hat Lodge, we noticed the clouds had turned dark. By the time we were seated, torrents of rain had started to fall. I've seen plenty of rain, but have never seen raindrops that big. The rain had stopped by the time we finished. When we got home, we found the dog wet, but only on one side of her body, so I guess she had calmly taken the whole thing lying down. (Lindy will not go into her doghouse.)

Such beautiful clouds and skies, Kay! Interesting about the rain and the huge droplets! What strange weather everyone is experiencing this summer! Funny about Lindy! Glad she didn't get too wet! Sounds like a fun visit! Hope you have a great weekend! Happy SWF!

Beautiful. It reminds me of scenes along the river in the City of Saskatoon :-)

A dog that refuses to go into the doghouse? I know: She prefers your house instead!

SKY SONG

Glowing moon and shining stars,
Venus, Jupiter and Mars,
Planets swirling round the sun;
Darkness falls when day is done.

In the vast and endless sky
Eagle, wren and falcon fly;
Over hill and dale they roam,
Calling cloud and thunder home.

@ Magical Mystical
You're right. She does prefer our house to hers!

It's so beautiful, Kay! The clouds in that first photo appears to be glowing.

The sky is gorgeous in these pictures. Hard to believe that it rained only a short time later.

Hi Kay, what beautiful photos your brother and sister-in-law took. And what a wonderful tour guide you are. I follow blog of a man in Regina and he talks about his football club being Saskatchewan. Is Regina also on that river, higher up? I haven't seen a post from him lately but at last count he and his wife of about a year had had a baby. And we all know how a baby can eat up the parents' time! Have a great day, my friend. Blessings. Jo

What a beautiful stretch of river, it immediately makes me want to jump in a kayak and go exploring. How lucky you are to have such glory within reach. Have a good weekend. x

Blue skies filled with puffy white clouds are my favorites.

That is funny that Lindy would rather get wet than go in her dog house. One drop of rain falls and my cats head for cover.

what happened to that small tree with no leaves?

lovely skies...and i guess a golden retriever doesn't mind a little water (basenjis hate water the way a cat hates water!)

Well -- that was one way to put on a show for company! If Western BC is anything like Western Oregon this summer, they probably appreciated the blue skies, even with the interruption of the lightening storm. We have had very few sunny days since we got here.

I too want The World Famous Kay Davies Unguided Tour of Medicine Hat. I've driven through it at least a half dozen times on the Trans-Canada Highway, but I don't recall slowing down to take a good look. Glad you enjoyed your company and that the skies put on a show. Lovely photos of the river! And you are too funny with words: she had calmly taken the whole thing lying down... LOL!

Kay, it looks so lovely there. I haven't been to the riverside here in so long. Seeing this makes me want to go now.
