Some small photos of some very big camera critters

Photos by Richard Schear

Three whales, mostly invisible.

We tried to get some whale photos while out on a catamaran in Hawaii, but the whales were too far away. We didn't get any from the deck of the ship as we cruised around the islands, either. But, while in our cabin, Dick saw three humpback whales, and he got some semi-close-ups of one of them.

One summer we took our children on a whale-watching excursion out of Bellingham, Washington. We saw several orcas, and I took many pictures, but most of the pics showed about what you have captured. Whales just don't pose! You did well!

I can't remember when I've ever seen whales in Hawaii although Art did when he was in the Air Force. Your photos were fun to see. Gosh! It's almost midnight here in Hawaii. Have a most wonderful, happy and healthy New Year, Kay and Dick!

You've already seen them more up close (in the wild) than I ever have. I have never even seen their tail for real. Perhaps I should take a cruise.

Having been whale watching in BC, I know how exciting it is when you spot one... or more...!

You actually got some pretty good shots of those humpbacks. They're difficult to photograph - we sometimes see whales (mostly humpbacks and grey whales) at our coast and the photos turn out similar to yours!
