Crescent Beach was "my beach" when I was a child visiting my grandparents. I loved to see the ocean, and the mountains above the city of Vancouver in the distance |
Sometimes British Columbia, Canada, where I was born, surprises me.
I was born on "The Wet West Coast" but grew up in the near-desert dry of BC's Okanagan Valley. When I finished high school, however, my father moved us all, lock, stock, cat, and dog to their favourite place: White Rock, B.C.

Eventually I became used to the dampness
of coastal living
but I suspected it wasn't really
for me even though I loved the ocean, the ins and the outs of it, and I loved to see the greenery.
Everything is green on the B.C. coast and I, in particular, if not both of us, loved the lush look of it.
When my husband and I travelled from our home on the Canadian prairie and over the Rocky Mountains to the coast for a visit with my family, I loved it all anew. For a while I even ignored the pain in my old aching body!
I cannot say we saw no rain, because there were a couple of hours on two different days when we got wet but we saw much to love in the greenery, especially on sunny days when it contrasted so well with a blue sky.
(Our return trip through the Rockies is a whole 'nother story, to be kept for another day.)
We stayed in Langley (above and below) for easy access to Vancouver
although we never really got as far as the city
The tall evergreens were blowing in the wind this day as Dick walked our Bonnie-Belinda in the dog-designated area outside our hotel |
Best of all, the sun was shining through a pastel blue sky! |

It looks beautifully green there, Kay!
I live on the front range of Colorado and it is often very dry with drought. When we do get rain it is often torrential with hail. Very confused weather...hah!
Beautiful blue skies and green fields
Sunshine and lots of green---what more could you ask for?
Absolutely beautiful sky shots! colors are dynamic!
Happy Weekend coming to you,

I can just smell the surf. Mmmm, delightful.
Nice beach view
Beautiful greenery and lovely blue skies! I would like to spend some time up in your neck of the woods. It's a beautiful area!
Hi Kay, i smiled at the greenest green, you should see our green here in the tropics, in person!
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip "home" Kay but I'm sorry you had some pain. It is difficult climate for joint pain sufferers.
Terrific.
Oh such a pretty reminder of the Pacific Northwest Beauty on both sides of the border!
Crescent Beach looks stunningly beautiful!
lovely! I love the ocean but live inland so I rarely see it :( Love the beach!
Lovely, lush and green! I can relate, being on the west coast of NZ with a mountain to keep the area watered.
I love the 'wet' side too. I love the mountains and the trees---while the beach is nice give me a mountain any day. My sis lives in Kelowna BC---coming from my side then living in Alberta for many years and back here again. My daughter lives in Eastern Wa. and LOVES it. So there ya go. Everywhere has it's own beauty

That is so pretty. And I bet my dogs combined weigh less than your one dog!
A very pretty area, love the beach views and all the green.
It's funny/coincidental I am reading this today … earlier I was looking out the window and wondering how many different shades of green there can be, and why it is my eye can see them and my camera cannot? Enjoy your week ahead!
I've been to Langley! Not recently, though!
I love the beach but I love the green more!
Lovely soothing images!
Things are looking that way around here now, too. I feel your joy. I love this time of year!
Oh, wow, the bluest skies might be in Seattle (as the song goes) but the greenest green is most certainly in your old neck of the woods in BC. It was wonderful seeing you all, Kay, and being introduced to the lovely bouncy Bonnie-Belinda!
Funny we were there about the same time! We adore our newest grandie!
Yes, we are the wet coast except in July and August when we pray for rain to end the fire bans and allow us to water our gardens. - Margy
Beautiful shots.
The Pacific Northwest sure gets a little too much of rain. But it also keeps the area so green and gorgeous.
Lovely seeing bits and parts of Canada here. :)
