Okay, this conversation didn't take place at Christmas time.
Calling All Angels...
You know, Dad, back when I was five...
Yes, he said, and thought,
Well, you know, she confided,
back when I was five,
there was a ball...
A ball, he repeated,
what kind of ball do you mean?
I don’t know what kind it was,
but it was beautiful,
and it followed me everywhere,
right there, she told him,
indicating a spot
behind and above
her right shoulder.
I don’t think anyone else could see it,
because nobody said.
But I could see it,
and it made me feel safe.
Don’t you feel safe now? he asked.
Oh, yes, I do. I can’t see the ball any more
because I’m six now, but I still feel safe.
And, besides, you’re holding my hand.

Utterly delightful. This is such a wonderful example of an angel (or two). Happy Holidays.
Oh this is such a heart-warming story, Kay. It gave me chills.
Wonderful story Kay. It brought this to mind:
Mat_18:10 [Jesus said] See that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.
And those are not Christmas angels, either.
Merry Christmas!
Love this! Every bit of it: conversation, speakers, topic, order, all of it. Perfect.
This is gorgeous, Kay. I'm with Kerry, it gave me chills, the good kind!
Oh, that is so sweet. I hope all of us felt that way as small children. In fact I wish all children could feel that way.
So inventive - I've never seen the colored narrative before. A nice warm sentiment even if it was not from christmas time
Oh I love this SO MUCH, Kay!!!!!!!! LOVE! IT!
Love the 'angels walk among us' in your sweet childhood tale.
love each and every word....a beautiful tale of angels....
Wonderful chatty dialogue that sounds so simple and yet holds the mystery of angels close. So beautiful. Loved it.
Oh Kay, this is wonderful and so touching~ Beautiful-so glad you shared!
The use of colors worked so well in this and the story unfolds so naturally. You have me curious if this was you and it it's true. Very believable and beautiful!
Ok, there are tears, but they are happy ones. Amazing what a child sees when their eyes are not clouded with doubt.
What beautiful words about the best angel a child can have. Have a wonderful weekend. (((Hugs))) Jo

I'll add to this chorus of exultation..... Blessings, YAM xx
This is almost archetypal, but I guess all root truths are. Reminds me of what Robert Bly once said, that childhood is this great golden ball that is taken from someone piece by piece until only the adult remains. I like this take better; we find that gold in each other.
I love this one, SO much.
