Look up, look 'way up, to see the moon in the purple part of the sky. Photos by Richard Schear |
The smallest sliver of moon we ever saw, greeted us one evening as we stayed in the south of France near Perpignan, during our month-long travels by river cruise ship and by train in Europe. |

Fantastic capture, Kay! I don't think I've ever seen sliver of moon that thin before! Gorgeous skies! Hope you have a Happy Easter weekend! Enjoy!

Great photos, the lighting adds such a pretty style, thanks for sharing with SWF and have a great weekend.

As in the Lower Mainland, I think there is a touch of smog in those gorgeous pink purple skies. Thanks for a look at the pale pretty moon looking quite slender over France. Hope you all have a great Easter weekend in Alberta, Kay. :)
I adore a pastel sunset like this, when the moon shows itself before darkness falls completely. What I find curious about your sliver of a moon, Kay, is that it is the BOTTOM we see. That is how it typically is in Asia, but I recall in more northern countries the moon shifts from side to side. I have to learn to pay better attention! :-D
Very nice, love the pastel colours.
@Francisca -- I know, I was surprised to see the bottom of it, too, but perhaps the difference isn't hemispheric. Perhaps it has as much to do with opposite SIDES of the earth as it does with north and south. After all, "the cow jumped over the moon" nursery rhyme came from Europe.

Lovely photos of the cresent moon and pretty sky, Kay! Happy skywatching and I hope you have a great weekend.
Good thing I had cataract surgery last year or else I'd never see the moon in your lovely photo.
What a delicate shot Richard has taken here, Kay. Such gorgeous colours, too. I read on another blog today, that earlier this week there had been a full moon which they had captured over The Louvre. Still have not been there, BTW. Been lots of other places, though.
Beautiful sky -- I didn't see the moon in the first picture until I looked at the second -- and then, when I looked again, it was right there in the beautiful purple. Wonderful sky.
Superb shot of the sliver of the moon! Love the color as you go higher in the sky.
Stunning first shot Kay - beautiful colours and a nearly-hidden moon - very special!
Beautiful moon photos Kay, - very romantic. Hope your trip was the same and that you have a happy Easter.
Wonderful captures.
Love the shots you took - with the sliver of a moon and gorgeous colours as well!

Welcome back!

Oooooo! That is such a cool capture! Wonderful, Kay!
This sliver of a moon is my absolute favorite! Then I love the full moon!
Beautiful shot!
Happy Easter to you and Dick!

I love the soft colors and the slice of the moon.
Wow! I have never seen this {shy] smile of the moon. What a great capture.
Beautiful pastel colors of the sky!
P.S. Its a long way for me to take a month long vacation...
Great Sky Watch shot! Well spotted.
All the best, Boonie
it is the thinnest slice of moon, yes! splendid photos.
That is a beautiful lavender sky.
This is so lovely. I never had the opportunity - or funds - to do a river cruise. I know you had a wonderful time!
Exquisite skies and I can imagine that your journey is so as well! I love this tiny slice of moon, usually an almost new moon rising in the pre-dawn hours. I would love to see one as you did in the countryside of France.
Safe travels!
