Shadows shot in Hoorn, The Netherlands

One of my favorite places on our rivers/canals cruise with Viking River Cruises last month was the wonderful town of Hoorn, in The Netherlands. There was something to see around every corner, and there were plenty of interesting shadows, too.

Great choice, Kay. I'll bet you've got an incredible collection of photos for all the memes from this trip.

The classic, narrow Dutch townhouses look just right here. The term is charming, a place where the world slows down and relaxes...

There are always plenty of shadows in those narrow European streets, where it's hard for the sun to penetrate.

EVEN IN SHADOW

Even in shadow, where there is no light,
One may take comfort and one may delight
That darkness has lost its power to thrall
Those who are living on this earthly ball.

What does that sign indicate in your first image? I have a thing for signs at the moment. Shall go on a treasure hunt after I return to Sydney.

@ Julie -- Wow, there's a question! Well, I'm guessing it means there's parking on the right but the road goes straight ahead. Or maybe it means there's a small road coming in on the right and you might not see it because of the parked cars. Of course, we were walking, and didn't pay any attention to it, so I really don't know. When Dick gets back from walking the dog, I'll see if he has any brilliant ideas about it.

A gorgeous, winding streetscape! So very romantic! And all those beautiful buildings and fencelines create wonderful shadow features!

Oh, yes very interesting shadows. It's that time of the day, when you have the best shadows.
Hoorn, is beautiful and famous. For sure one of the nicest places in the Netherlands. You know I'm from Germany and for some years we had our sailboat on the Ijsselmeer.

To answer Anns question, I think there is a small street coming from the side, and it looks like that somebody put a sticker on it.

How lovely this area looks! And those photos in your post above are cute!

The lizard in my post is a Water Dragon (aka Bearded Dragon). I'm not sure if we have iguanas here. Maybe we do, but I've never seen one. Have a wonderful Easter weekend :)

Not to this post, comment to your comment at Franciscas Danube bridges post.
Amazing that you mention the Fraser, another great river indeed. And while walking the Trans Canada Trail we walked along the Fraser.

Oh and I wondered about the bridges at Fraser, couldn't remember so much. Now, after reading your comment again, I understand what you mean.
